What are your first reactions to the name Frankie?
If you heard the name Frankie would you think girl or boy?
I don't like any of the longer versions for a boy or for a girl. Would this be okay as a standalone name?

Look forward to your responses.

I probably wouldn't think of either gender and my mind just remain blank until I actually meet the person.

Personally I do think a full name is usually the appropriate way to go specially when you consider that they'll be adults one day

Grufallosfriends · 09/08/2020 17:02

Girl

mintich · 09/08/2020 17:05

I know 2 Frankie's, a boy and a girl so I wouldn't think of either!

mintich · 09/08/2020 17:06

Oh and I dont think it should be a stand alone name

gerbo · 09/08/2020 17:06

I like it, I know a lovely Frankie, boy of 8.

SweatyAndyFromWoking · 09/08/2020 17:08

Fine for a boy but awful for a girl

Luckingfovely · 09/08/2020 17:10

Funny, I think it's cool for a girl, but awful for a boy Grin

nutellatoast · 09/08/2020 17:11

I think Frankie is a cute name but prefer it as a nn for Francesca which is a lovely name and gives more flexibility.

compulsivesnacker · 09/08/2020 17:13

I would wonder why the parents used a diminutive version for either sex and be a bit bemused. I wouldn’t have any issue with it being used as a diminutive for either sex, but the choice to go with it as a registered name would confuse me. It doesn’t leave anywhere for the child to go as an adult and diminutives can be tricky. I’d hope they had a middle name they could use if they wanted to.
I love it as a nn though and it works well as a female alternative. I know female Francesca’s and Franklin’s (after Aretha). I prefer it that way for a girl tbh, but it’s fine for either sex. Bit retro.
I don’t like it as a stand-alone name for either sex.

lampshadery · 09/08/2020 17:22

Would think boy but not unusual for a girl. Don't like it as a stand-alone name.

Chestnut234 · 09/08/2020 17:25

I think sink but we are in the middle of a kitchen extension atm!

chubbyhotchoc · 09/08/2020 17:31

Boy. I think it's a great name

Fungster · 09/08/2020 17:33

I really don't like it, for a boy or a girl. I'm not a fan of diminutives and it's a bit "East End market trader" for my liking. (Also read: Alfie, Archie...)

Rachel247 · 09/08/2020 18:02

Frankie is short for Francesca. I know 2 female Frankie.

For a boy Frank is much better.

Poppydaisies · 09/08/2020 18:03

Definitely girl.

Frank is a good boys name.

AdriannaP · 09/08/2020 18:07

Love it for a girl, not keen for a boy
Wouldn’t use it as stand alone maybe nn for Francesca

Poppydaisies · 09/08/2020 18:08

Frankie is short for Francesca or Frances. I like it.

LizzieMacQueen · 09/08/2020 18:31

Makes me think of Frankie Boyle.

PoodleMoth · 09/08/2020 18:36

Really dislike it for a girl and not keen for a boy!

whirlwindwallaby · 09/08/2020 18:37

Girl, or as a nickname for a young boy. It was the name of an early childhood friend of mine so I think I love it because of that connection.

I would use it as a day to day name but I would personally put Frances or Francis on the birth certificate so the child had the option as an adult.

Luckingfovely · 09/08/2020 18:49

Definitely what @whirlwindwallaby said - not a great name as the only option.

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2020 23:33

Sorry, but my first reaction (which I'd hide of course in real life) is what an unattractive name it is for either sex. It somehow manages to be both ugly and cutesy at the same time.

sorryforswearing · 09/08/2020 23:58

Girl but only because recently had one in my class. She’ll be seven now.

Wishforsnow · 09/08/2020 23:59

Girl as a nickname for Francesca is lovely

VonHerrBurton · 10/08/2020 00:11

Francesca is a beautiful girl's name. I wouldn't choose it purely because she'd eventually get Frankie which I think is a harsh sounding name and I don't like it at all. Not terrible for a boy but I still don't like the sound of the name.
