'Olivia is a vile name' - Wow CoffeeRunner aren't you a gem! How rude! I'd love to know what your name is.

Ducky1900 · 05/08/2020 08:26

Sorry mumsnet, didn't realise Rae was popular!
Maybe quirky was wrong word....!

Haha some people dont hold back!!
I think Olivia and Sophie are lovely names :)

They are a bit common if that's why people dont like it? But they are lovely and sweet, they are names that suits any age :)

I agree that Rae isn't that out there but it's nice. Maybe something like Rain, Winter, Storm? The nature names sound really cute as middle names I agree, Cherry, Olive?

nevergoingoutagain · 05/08/2020 08:55

My daughters middle name is Winter.

BuffaloCauliflower · 05/08/2020 09:01

I know someone with the middle name Xlent. That’s quirky.

Rae is pretty generic these days. Olivia is fine but so so overused, feels a bit uninspired.

Ducky1900 · 05/08/2020 09:09

Yes that's exactly what puts me off Olivia, overused and too many syllables!
I'm Edging more for Sophie.
I quite like traditional names.
I've never heard of Rae so didn't know it was popular either!

Sophie Rae
Olivia Rae...

Both first names are nice, but Olivia and Sophia are very overused. Sophie is lovely.

Rae as a middle name is just a filler. It's there with Rose, May/Mae and Grace but more downmarket.

I really really wanted dd1s middle name to be Daffodil but couldn't convince dh :(

Olivia Christabel

@NoemiaElara my opinion is that Olivia is one of the most overused, ugliest sounding names of recent times.

Whether my opinions matches yours doesn’t make mine any less relevant.

I didn’t choose my name. So why would I be offended if you didn’t like it?

Prettylittlelady · 06/08/2020 08:17

I think a quirky middle name is a great idea. I wouldn’t say Rae was at all quirky though; perhaps if it was the first name it may be considered as this - bit it definitely becoming an overused middle.
What about:
Blossom
Brooke
Winter (might depend when she’s born!)
Primrose
Coco
Ophelia

daisypond · 06/08/2020 09:38

Olivia and Sophie are nice, but Rae is awful and common- definitely not quirky.

IckleBear · 06/08/2020 15:30

Sophie Ingrid
Sophie Cosette
Olivia Ezrie
Olivia Posey

Changedname81 · 06/08/2020 15:54

Not that quirky but I really like wren

MaverickDanger · 06/08/2020 15:56

We’re going with quirky family names from our family tree - either unusual first names or surnames.

One of these will be Peach if we have a girl.

We’ve also said we love Maverick for a boy.

aprilfools19 · 07/08/2020 22:14

When are you due? If in winter, I Olivia Snow ?? I’ve lowkey liked the name snow ever since watching a tv show years ago with a character called Snow.

FizzyGreenWater · 09/08/2020 00:23

I don’t like Olivia but have always liked Sophie - it’s so gentle.

Sophie Blythe

Sophie Loveday

Sophie Joy

Sophie Calypso

Sophie Tansy

I love the idea of using inspirational surnames as middle names, so on our shortlist for second middle names (my family always does two middles) we've got Steinem, Bronte, Darwin and Aldrin.

IlanaWexler · 14/08/2020 16:29

I want something quirky for DD's middle name too, but I'm really struggling to find something I love.

I think with a two syllable first name you want the middle name to be either one syllable or three.
