Our little girl is due in October! She'll be known as Posey/Posy/Posie Which spelling do you prefer?

This will be the shortened version of her full name, Primrose. Not to everyone's taste I know but it's a family name and I love it! Too late to change our mind now as we have personalised goodies already so please don't tell me if you hate it ;)

Gorgeous name. I would use the Posy spelling. I get a bit annoyed at the notion that you can’t use cute or overly feminine names for girls or they might not be taken seriously...if we continue to conform to that notion nothing will change. We need to teach our girls that they can be girly AND strong. They don’t need a ‘strong’ name to be perceived as such. Anyway. Love Primrose.

Call it personal preference. I’m 4ft11 & looked younger than my age for years - it was enough of a struggle to get taken seriously & a cutesy name would just have made it harder!

I have a Josephine who went by Posey when she was younger.

We never heard any negative connotations to that spelling, and it's an accepted variation of a small bunch of flowers.

But any of the spellings is fine - it's a really dear little name to use when they're all round and pink and little

pooopypants · 04/08/2020 11:44

Cute for a little girl, not a grown woman. I know it isn't the opinion you asked for OP but I can't imagine calling a grown human by such a cutesy name

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/08/2020 12:16

Quite.

NWnature · 04/08/2020 15:54

Posy

Crankley · 04/08/2020 16:02

I agree, cute for a child but far too twee for a woman. If I was an adult with that name I would change it. Is there another name where the NN could be Posie/y/ey?

InTheWings · 04/08/2020 16:04

Posy.

Definitely not 'Posey', as in an adjective of posing.

RunningFromInsanity · 04/08/2020 16:06

Posy but it’s not really a nn for Primrose

Cbeebiesrehab · 04/08/2020 16:11

Posy is one of the recognised diminutives of Primrose.

FelicityBob · 04/08/2020 16:12

I’d go for Rosie Grin don’t like posy at all sorry. As others say, doesn’t suit at adult and just sounds like a poser.

pooopypants · 04/08/2020 16:23

@crankley - 'twee' - that's the word that was escaping me!

rachelrainbow · 04/08/2020 16:37

She can be Rose as a grown up if she wants something less twee ☺️

Primrose is naturally shortened to Prim, Primmy or Rose/Rosie.

Posy sounds like someone posing.

SE13Mummy · 04/08/2020 16:39

Posy, like Posy Fossil in Ballet Shoes.

riotlady · 04/08/2020 17:01

Posy! Lovely

morefun · 04/08/2020 17:18

I like Posy.

floralf · 04/08/2020 18:15
