Opinions on Archer..

Following on from my last post I am loving the name Archer..

Would be Archer Frank - there is no budging on Frank as it was my grandads name.

Whats your opinions on Archer? I like that he could be known as Archie whilst a baby but has the option of a more 'formal' name when he is older?!

Absolutely fine as a surname but awful as a first name.

Sexnotgender · 03/08/2020 10:29

Really dislike it, sorry!

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 10:33

Not fond. I immediately think parents must be trying to be different. For some reason (actually obvious) it always makes me think of combo of game of thrones and astrology and then it all goes a bit hippy.
However if you like it then use it obviously ! Pretty much every name will have naysayers.
Congrats op.

Flymetothestars · 03/08/2020 12:02

Love it

AudacityOfHope · 03/08/2020 12:03

I really like it

JaJaDingDong · 03/08/2020 12:03

It's a NO from me, sorry OP.

Hiccupiscal · 03/08/2020 12:05

I like it, I think it somewhat of a 'marmite' name.

Clumsyduck · 03/08/2020 12:06

Love it Smile

Regularsizedrudy · 03/08/2020 12:07

Frank Archer sounds way better than Archer Frank

worstwitch18 · 03/08/2020 12:10

I wouldn't use it myself.

Coco784 · 03/08/2020 12:26

@Regularsizedrudy

Unfortunately husband has strongly vetoed Frank as a first name due to bad experiences of a Frank

Archer? As in a bowman HmmShock?!

Not a fan, sorry.

Puppilangstrumpfi · 03/08/2020 13:35

Archer Frank sounds like an archer called Frank!

Grufallosfriends · 03/08/2020 13:37

Archer is awful.

Frank is ok.

Kokeshi123 · 03/08/2020 13:37

I like it. "Archie" is a bit cute for a given name and "Archibald" is dire.

Grufallosfriends · 03/08/2020 13:38

The traditional full name for Archie is Archibald.

Lavenderblues · 03/08/2020 13:40

An archer is a bowman using bow and arrow. I dislike it as a name.

Lavenderblues · 03/08/2020 13:40

And Archie is too twee and cutesy imo.

SomeWateryTart · 03/08/2020 13:41

@Puppilangstrumpfi

Archer? As in a bowman HmmShock?!

Not a fan, sorry.

You made this exact comment on her other thread, so I do find your Shock face and ?? a little disingenuous tbh...

Yes, like a bowman. Well done you.

Coco784 · 03/08/2020 13:47

I’m sure plenty of little Archie’s are Archer or just Archie rather than Archibald..

I have noticed it’s always the same people hating on the name Archie / Archer.

Do not understand the snobbery towards it if I am totally honest but thank you all for your comments

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 03/08/2020 14:02

You could call him Archimedes, Archelaus, Archil or Archon, if you want a longer name.

It's not snobbery on my part. I just don't like Surnames as first names (Butcher?), and I can remember when Archie was deeply unfashionable.

SomeWateryTart · 03/08/2020 14:45

Is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's* son not just Archie? I mean, they are literally royalty, so I don't think it's a 'commoner' name at all. I think Archer would work well on an adult, which is why I'd probably go for that on the BC, personally. I think if you were in America, you'd hear many surnamey first names. I don't like all of them or even many of them, but I do happen to like Archer a lot.

These names (surnamey ones) are a bit marmite, especially among the MN demographic imo.

SomeWateryTart · 03/08/2020 14:46

Sorry the * was meant to be

*I know these aren't their real titles anymore...or are they?
