Me and my partner have one baby together, her name begins with an I so I want new baby name to begin with same. He also has another child name starts with A but I want I names.

We’ve narrowed it down to

Isla
Idaa
Ivory

What are your thoughts? I think middle name will be wren for more info. Thanks.

Ivory is really awful sorry

CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 15:04

It’s the official way to pronounce iva apparently

We’re really considering going with Isla.

Please not Ivory. Too much of a connotation with animal cruelty.

TBH I'd avoid the whole 'I' name thing if I was in your shoes. I'd be conscious of not wanting the two youngest sisters to appear as a 'set' or a matching pair when there is a half sister/step daughter who might feel left out.

CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 15:08

His oldest child is 13. She really doesn’t care if the babies have the same initial for their names. That wouldn’t make her feel left out.

Ida

Kidsclub29 · 18/07/2020 15:11

Isla is my name! But I’m 29 and it wasn’t common at all back in the 90s. I’ve always loved my name, so being very biased here. Go with isla ;-)

Whatsyourflava · 18/07/2020 15:13

Just checked the official statistics and the numbers of Isla's born has been falling each and every year since 2014

TheWitchCirce · 18/07/2020 15:25

I hated having the same initials as my sister - we kept opening each others bank statements etc but I guess the world has moved online since then.

I don't like the 'Ban Ivory' connotations of that name,

Ida is OK

Isla is blah

India and Ivy are both pretty.

LilacSloth · 18/07/2020 17:11

Isla is far and away the nicest from your list. I don't like Ida and Ivory makes me think of elephants and rhinos.

I'm sure you've considered all the 'I' names but a couple of suggestions:

Ivy
Iris (think rainbow or flower rather than eye)
Iona
India

I agree it could be annoying for both girls to have the same initials. How about 'E' or 'O' names? Keeping to a theme of names beginning with vowels and includes both dds.

NameChange84 · 18/07/2020 17:27

Isla is pretty but common
Ida is ok
Ivory is horrible
Iva will definitely be pronounced as I’ve a whether you like it or not unfortunately.

Iona
Iris
Innes
Ivanna
Irina
I love Irene and think it’s due a comeback
Ivy
Inaya
Isadora
Ingrid

CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 17:55

I think I’m just gonna go with Isla. I can’t imagine the baby being anything else now

Peacenquiet2 · 18/07/2020 18:19

I work in a school and Isla is very common amongst the lower years, nice nonetheless if you don't mind. I think of ivory as belonging to elephants rather than a name, and Idah is Robbie williams wife's name and she immediately comes to mind, I'm not keen tbh. Indigo is an out there name that's not too common as far as I'm aware

Mumma4262 · 18/07/2020 18:41

I like Ida best out of your choices, but I really love Iris and Ivy.

thunderthighsohwoe · 18/07/2020 18:55

It might not be the case by the time your baby goes to school, but in the village primary in which I teach we have six Islas out of only 210 children. We also have loads of girls named: Evie, Eve, Eva, Florence, Millie, Lily, Beatrice, Emily, Anna, Isabelle/a.

I didn’t want to use any name for our DD that I’d had in one of my classes. Took us ages to agree on one 😂

littlejalapeno · 18/07/2020 19:13

Love Ida, it’s on my list of girls names too

123Dancewithme · 18/07/2020 23:07

I like Ida the best! Much less common than Isla.

Haffdonga · 18/07/2020 23:13

You do know that ivory is obtained by killing elephants, don't you? Why would anyone want to be associated with a cruel and brutal illegal trade? Confused

Seriously your dd would not thank you for that name.

Fawnandwren · 18/07/2020 23:16

Aiyla (eye-la) so ties current DD and sd with the A and I?

HollyBen · 18/07/2020 23:25

I love Isla but I do feel it has been overused.
Not keen on Ivory.
So for that reason I'd say Ida.
Not entirely sure why you want your children to have the same initial though! My twin brother had the same initial? My first childs name starts with E. My husband has am older child who also has an E name. I was adamant that even though I loved lots of other E names there was no way we were using another E name!

TimeWastingButFun · 18/07/2020 23:31

Ivory is pretty, Isla is nice but used a lot. Idaa ... well for a start my spell check tried to change it to idea 3 times... and she'd have too much correction of spelling imo!

BeMorePacific · 19/07/2020 00:38

Isla is a lovely choice. xx

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 05:56

Aiyla is awful. It looks unpronounceable and would cause a lifetime of missellings

worstwitch18 · 19/07/2020 07:10

I like Ida the most from your list. Isla is nice too. Not keen on Ivory because I think of elephant tusks.

Do you like Ianthe/Ianthia or Ines?

I think your older daughter's name is lovely, by the way.

CursesAndMagic · 19/07/2020 08:07

Yes Aiyla would definitely be a no. I said I wanted i, that’s my choice if you don’t like same initial names then don’t use them 🤷🏼‍♀️. I think we’re going to go with Isla. We can’t imagine her being anything else now as we refer to her as that name all the time. Also Isla and Isabelle aren’t that similar - so I think they complement each other well. Thank you all for your suggestions. I do actually really like Ida so I think I’m going to see what she suits more once born.
