Me and my partner have one baby together, her name begins with an I so I want new baby name to begin with same. He also has another child name starts with A but I want I names.

We’ve narrowed it down to

Isla
Idaa
Ivory

What are your thoughts? I think middle name will be wren for more info. Thanks.

Ivory is nice, sorry not keen on the others - Isla is very very popular at the moment.

Iona, Ivy, Isabelle or Imogen (Immy)?

CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 14:25

Our first born is Isabelle. :) we like ivory it’s unusual

Aww lovely, Isabelle and Ivory sounds really nice Smile

SweatyAndyFromWoking · 18/07/2020 14:27

Ivory Wren sounds like a home interior company.

I don't know how you pronounce Idaa. Idah? Idar? Eedah? Eedar? Unless Idaa is an ethnic name I'd go for Ida.

Isla Wren is fine but Isla is very popular in my area but that might not bother you.

stepbackfromthecircles · 18/07/2020 14:28

I love Isla but there are so many. Not a problem unless you want an individual name. Ivory is nice x

SnowdropFox · 18/07/2020 14:28

Isla is far too popular for me.
I like Ida, is it supposed to be double aa? Looks a little out of place to me.
Ivory doesn't seem like a person name to me. Reminds me of poachers killing elephants for Chinese medicine.

blosstree · 18/07/2020 14:29

Ivory reminds me of poachers too. I don't really see it as a name. How about Ivy?

Like Ida but without the extra A.

CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 14:33

I wasn’t supposed to add the extra a hahah.

Iris Wren

BakewellGin1 · 18/07/2020 14:39

Isla or Ida although Isla is quite popular.

happytoday73 · 18/07/2020 14:39

Isla is lovely.. But popular at moment. Ivory... I don't see as a name.
The other I don't know how to pronounce so can't comment

Zisforstripyoss · 18/07/2020 14:40

I love Ida, so retro in a really good way! I don't know any little Idas, so she won't be one of a few in a class, unless it suddenly has a boom. Plus you have the connection to people like Ida B. Wells, Ida Tarbell & Ida McKinley.

Isabelle & Isla are too similar.
Ivory isn't my taste, sorry.

Go with Ida!

HappyDinosaur · 18/07/2020 14:43

Ida is lovely, around here Isla seems to be seen as a bit naff, Ivory is ok but could sound strange depending on your surname.

CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 14:43

You’d pronounce Ida like it looks eye-da

Isla is very popular here too. We decided on it when we found out gender and it’s so popular it’s putting me off.

OP posts:
CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 14:45

I love iris but my partner said we’re not naming our child after an eyeball 👁

OP posts:
daisypond · 18/07/2020 14:47

Definitely not Ivory. Ivory poaching? Ivory Coast? Doesn’t go with Isabelle.
Ida is fine.
Isla is a bit odd alongside Isabelle.
Imogen?

Greenfloors · 18/07/2020 14:48

Isla is a beautiful name. I know it's popular but I actually only know one who is 4.

Ida is nice. As is Aida (Ada?) Iris, or Iria.

Not keen on Ivory at all.

CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 14:49

I really don’t like the name Imogen. A few people I know have suggested that to me but I can’t seem to imagine my baby being called Imogen.

CursesAndMagic · 18/07/2020 14:50

I also like Iva pronounced like Eva.

OP posts:
Peccary · 18/07/2020 14:52

Ivy, Iona?

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2020 14:57

Isla - overused but pretty
Idaa - no
Ivory - hmm, nn Tusk?

How about Inge, Ingrid, Isolde, Iona, Ianthe ...

Greenfloors · 18/07/2020 14:59

@CursesAndMagic

I also like Iva pronounced like Eva.
I've not seen this before, but I would pronounce Iva as I've-ah. Like, I've a pair of shoes

If you like Eva, call her Eva, another lovely name!

BiBabbles · 18/07/2020 15:02

Out of those three, I'd pick Ida, for I names I'd also suggest Ianthe and Iria.

However, I don't get the appeal of having siblings match this way. I got stuck with the same initials as my siblings and grew up aware that it was done to match my older brother, and I did at times feel like I was just second fiddle to him. Both my younger sister and I ended up going by our middles names and various nicknames over the years in part because our names felt less ours and more just convenient for the set.

Whatsyourflava · 18/07/2020 15:02

Isla was peak popular about 5-10 years ago. If you look at its numbers on the official statistics they've been falling each and every year since then.
There's none at my local baby groups, all the ones I know are 3 and over and that's reflected in the statistics
