Now having 2nd thoughts on names for DD! Which would you choose - Nina or Emilia? DS is called Teddy.

I love Nina but also really like Emilia (possible nn Emmy) but don't want her having to correct people thinking its Amelia her whole life!

I’m not keen on any to be honest .

Nina

Emilia- I really like this name, it’s so so pretty.
Nina I find too harsh.

I prefer Emilia, but I also like Nina, and would choose Nina because of the reason you mentioned.

Emilia

Nina.

I prefer Emilia

I really love both so not much help.
I don't think it's the worst thing in the world to say to someone new that it's "Emilia with an E"
I bet she'll go by a nickname most of the time anyway

Poppydaisies · 17/07/2020 07:50

I'm not keen on either. But I'd probably choose Emilia. It's very popular though. But so is Teddie.

babynamelover · 17/07/2020 07:59

I much prefer Nina although it's a much different feel to Teddy.
You could go with Emily of course or Emmeline is a lovely alternative.

icedaisy · 17/07/2020 08:00

I like both but, nina twice I have seen kids tease. May just be unfortunate but both were subjected to nenaw nenaw. One when I was at school and one a friends child.

BackforGood · 17/07/2020 08:30

I think if going with the _melia sound, I'd go for Amelia (in UK - don't know if it is different in different languages) as it is a real pain having to say "No, not Amelia, Emilia" every day of your life. OR, if you want the 'Em' sound then Emily or Emma.

So, out of the two, I'd go Nina because of that ^

Nina

I’ve got an awkwardly spelt name and while not the end of the world I have spent my entire life correcting people who think it is spelt the ‘normal’ way.

jammyjoey · 17/07/2020 08:35

I'm due in September and have picked Nina for DD. I wanted something not too common but easy to spell. MIL loves E names like Eve, Emelia but I know some people think they're very popular. DS name isn't overly popular so I didn't want a popular name for DD either.

Onestepup · 17/07/2020 08:42

Emilia

Pineapple30 · 17/07/2020 09:43

@avamiah @Poppydaisies what would your suggestions be? I think Amelia is very popular but Emilia not so much, although the sound is similar. Teddy is becoming more popular I agree but definitely not a top 10 name still.

@babynamelover what names do you think have a similar feel to Teddy? I wanted to avoid names ending in "y/ie" sounds as thought it might be a bit much! Although I like Phoebe too!

Nina

ChikiTIKI · 17/07/2020 10:11

Nina 💛

Emmy I would assume is a nn for Emmeline

GinWithRosie · 17/07/2020 10:38

Emilia.

I think Nina sounds too much like 'ninny' and would get teased. It's also quite a harsh sound.

Milicentbystander72 · 17/07/2020 10:41

I like both but if pushed I prefer Nina.

I had a good friend at school called Nina and have fond memories.

It's not too common these days. My dcs are teens and I know of no Nina's.

Jilljams · 17/07/2020 10:46

I prefer Emilia but I do think most people will think it’s Amelia unless you tell them it’s with an E every time you introduce her. In my accent there really is no difference in the pronunciation of the two names.

sweetnosugar · 17/07/2020 10:53

I prefer Nina. ☺️
