Which spelling do you prefer?

I have a Rebekah. We gave her that spelling because of its roots in Hebrew and that reflects our families background. My daughter does have to spell it quite frequently. Although I have a name which can only be spelt one way yet it still sometimes gets spelt wrong so Hmm

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 01/07/2020 12:10

Rebecca definitely.

That looks nicer to me than Rebekah. Not keen on that spelling.

coco2020 · 01/07/2020 13:08

Always preferred Rebekah. Love the Hebrew feel of it

TheVanguardSix · 01/07/2020 13:12

I have a Rebecca. She's 10 and it's my favourite name.
I prefer this spelling because the actual (beautiful) Hebrew spelling does come across as a bit... well, it's been mentioned above. Rebekah has been a bit trampled on, I'll put it that way.
We also call our DD Rivka.

Hippychickster · 01/07/2020 14:55

I'm Rebecka. I like my name and the spelling!

Zombiemum07 · 01/07/2020 15:35

Definitely Rebecca. She’d be constantly correcting her name spelling the other way and I’m not sure it really adds anything having it spelt like that

HowFastIsTooFast · 01/07/2020 15:55

I can confidently confirm that whichever spelling you choose she will constantly need to spell it out to people regardless, so it hardly matters HmmGrin

(Source : 30+ years of spelling Rebecca out to people on at least a weekly basis)

When I was younger I preferred the biblical version but now I think that spelling looks a bit harsh and prefer the more common one.

Runnerduck34 · 01/07/2020 17:01

Rebecca (have to vote that way as its dds name and spelling!) I like the other spelling too - i associate it with jewish heritage rather than footballers wives. However she will always be correcting the spelling.

Scruffyoak · 01/07/2020 17:01

Rebekah

MikeUniformMike · 01/07/2020 17:31

Both spellings are perfectly acceptable. I know far too many Rebecca, Becca, Becky, and Becks to use it though

BabyLlamaZen · 01/07/2020 20:41

The Rebekah I know hates her name and how to constantly respell it. I know it's biblical, but I think it can look a bit chavvy. Sorry!

Duchessofealing · 01/07/2020 21:09

Rebecca - beautiful name and the only one I know is amazing 🥰

LittleGwyneth · 08/07/2020 16:18

Rebecca, if you're not Jewish.

PotteringAlong · 08/07/2020 16:20

Rebecca

goingoverground · 08/07/2020 16:35

I prefer Rebecca unless Rebekah reflects your heritage. If you are Jewish, I prefer the name Rivka. I hate the association of the name Rebecca/Rebekah with the insult "Beck", the British equivalent of JAP (Jewish American princess).

Rebecca, however she will probably have to spell either version. During primary I had it spelt some weird & wonderful ways.

CherryPavlova · 09/07/2020 22:24

Unless you’re Jewish I’d go with Rebecca

SociallyDistanced2020 · 09/07/2020 22:34

Either, but not Rebecka - I know one. I always have to check the spelling!

Zisforstripyoss · 09/07/2020 23:01

Rebecca. Rebekah looks too harsh to me.

zingally · 10/07/2020 12:11

For the sake of ease, Rebecca is what I'd go for. Purely because that's what everyone else would go for as a first guess.

To me, Rebekah is a bit try-hard. Like, it's awkward for the sake of being awkward.

emilybrontescorsett · 10/07/2020 17:44

I wonder where the Rebecca spelling came from.
Anyway I prefer Rebekah but do think people might spell it wrong.

SumAndSubstance · 11/07/2020 15:50

It may be the Hebrew original.
The Hebrew original was in Hebrew letters 😉.

CrimeCantCrackItself · 11/07/2020 21:54

This. I'm a Kah, I like it.

Minikievs · 11/07/2020 21:59

Rebecca. Rebekah looks a bit harsh written down.
My sister is Rebecca and I still spell it out in my head in a sing songy voice whenever I write it down after years and years of hearing people asking her how to spell her name.

whiteroseredrose · 12/07/2020 07:31

We chose Rebecca for DD's middle name after my (Jewish) Great Grandmother. That was how she spelled it.

Rebekah looks a bit spiky to me.
