Which spelling do you prefer?

Rebekah looks so phonetic.

It’s the Kah at the end. It’s like someone has written the sound of a cough.

MiddleClassProblem · 01/07/2020 00:39

The only Rebekahs I know are antipodean so if the UK I’d just be worried about how people would spell it and if it would be a nuisance for DD. Aesthetically I prefer with a k though.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 01/07/2020 00:39

I like both...but I can assure you that its one of those names that people will always asked how it’s spelled even though Rebecca is standard (I am one!).

Anon0998 · 01/07/2020 05:14

Neither hate the name it's awful. But if you must the vardy spelling it's classier.

Rebecca

amylou8 · 01/07/2020 06:40

I prefer Rebekah...bit she'll spend her life spelling it.

KingofDinobots · 01/07/2020 07:04

Rebecca.

lotusbell · 01/07/2020 07:25

Rebekah is my confirmation name. Never used it of course, but I remember at the time thinking "urgh, I'm not picking Mary or Bernadette" so I chose a Biblical name, rather than a saints name, thought it was a bit unusual at the time, early 90s. This coming from a time when if your name was Amy, you'd probably write it as 'Amii' just to be different.

Sorry, I've digressed.

Personally I'd stick with the everyday spelling, but I'm writing as one who was saddled with an unusual name that I'm still having to spell, every single day, for people. Its your choice, its a lovely name either way.

Mynamemay · 01/07/2020 09:41

Oh I much prefer Rebekah possibly because it's in the O.T and biblical.
Whoever said it's footballers wives wt? Confused

It's a beaut of a name so either is lovely :)

Ellmau · 01/07/2020 09:42

@Heytheredelilah99

I know Rebekah is the biblical version.
Not in any English translation I've ever seen.

It may be the Hebrew original.

merryhouse · 01/07/2020 09:46

With a -kah I'd assume you had some Jewish heritage.

SE13Mummy · 01/07/2020 09:52

Rebekah - she'll have to spell her name out regardless of the version you choose. Hopefully your last name is something that doesn't need spelling out!

pinkyboots1 · 01/07/2020 09:58

My daughter is Rebecca .. we toyed with the other spelling but felt like we were 'forcing' it to be different. She wishes we'd just called her Becky-Leigh (Leigh is her middle name)

florascotia2 · 01/07/2020 10:34

Rebekah is the spelling in the King James (Authorised Version) Bible, of 1611. That was the government-sponsored English translation that was used in all C of E churches for hundreds of years. Rebekah is mentioned in several places, starting with Geneis 22 v 23.

finallychangedmyusername · 01/07/2020 10:34

I truly love both spellings.

I think with the Rebekah spelling some might assume (correctly or incorrectly) that you are quite a religious family. That may or may not be a good thing for you. FWIW, I say this as an agnostic who used Hebrew names myself.

Both are great though.

gotothecooler · 01/07/2020 11:55

Personally I'd stick with the everyday spelling,

And which one do you consider to be the 'everyday' spelling?

DaffyDaffy · 01/07/2020 11:58

Rebekah for me! It seems more timeless.

Rebecca I associate with the 80s.

LoveSunshine01 · 01/07/2020 12:02

I like both - Rebekah screams biblical at me rather than footballers wife!

Rebecca would def be easier to avoid having to spell it out...
