whattodo235 · 18/06/2020 11:47

Hi all - desperate for some help/advice!
Our DS2 is due in a week and we need a name that works in English as well as Greek.

Our front runners currently are:

Xander (I don't much like Alexander)
Marcus
Hector

Others that have come up:

Ajax
Lysander
Leander

I love Rafael, but my partner doesn't!

Help! Any thoughts on the above/other suggestions?

Marcus - Not as keen as some of your other names
Hector -not too keen
Ajax - not too keen
Lysander -love this
Leander -like this

you could also consider Adrian, Alec, Jedrick, Joran or Kayson?
all the best

Theodore? Is that Greek, sorry I’m hopeless! If it is it’s lovely!
Otherwise I do like your suggestion of Xander!

whattodo235 · 18/06/2020 11:56

Sadly can't use Theodore but I do love it! Joran is interesting too, hadn't heard it before!

I'm leaning towards Xander I think, although we could use Lysandros/Lysander nn Xander?? Or is Lysander a bit wet sounding/could be shortened to Lice...?!

We are in France and have a Lysandre in our village. I also know an Ulysse and an Hippolyte. I like Xander and Xan as a diminuative though.

Etcni · 18/06/2020 12:05

Maybe Andreas, Lucas, Matthias... Lots of names from the New Testament would work in both languages, or Anglicised versions (eg Jason) of Greek myth names. I don't really like Hector because I think of all the gruesome bits of the Iliad after the Trojan defeat!

BlueChampagne · 18/06/2020 12:22

Pavlos
Marius
Philip

Tend to think of Marcus as more Roman.

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/06/2020 12:26

Paris
Troy
(The was a DJ on our local Heart FM station and he was called Paris Troy and I know he was from a Greek family).

eandz13 · 18/06/2020 12:30

This isn't much help but I love all of those names. In my family we have a Matthias which a pp suggested which I love too. Marcus and Leander are probably my faves.

whattodo235 · 18/06/2020 12:37

I like Lucas/Luca a lot but again my partner's not keen sadly!

Always wanted to call my son Plato. But it sounds weird with a british surname.

From your list I like Lysandros the best. Other options could be Aristos (short for Aristotle) or Orpheas. If you want to go down the Ancient Greek names.

Otherwise Nicholas, Alexis or Filipos could work.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 18/06/2020 13:03

Sorry - seen you don't like Alexander - Xander is good! My youngest is Perseus (nn Percy).

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 18/06/2020 13:04

I love Morpheus but it may be a bit too out there!!

itssquidstella · 18/06/2020 13:07

Orestis?

TheVanguardSix · 18/06/2020 13:07

Michael is always a good name. Our family priest (Greek Orthodox) has a son named Michael. It's one of those beautiful names that just works.

DS has a classmate named Konstantinos.

Destroyedpeople · 18/06/2020 13:08

Stavros
Adonis
Zeus

Destroyedpeople · 18/06/2020 13:09

Ok I was joking a bit. Love Leander. ..

roses2 · 18/06/2020 13:43

I like Nikolas.

Please don' call him Ajax - that's an old school cleaning product!

GeorginaEstonia · 18/06/2020 13:45

Panos

whattodo235 · 18/06/2020 13:58

Our eldest is Leonidas nn Leo - so worried that Leander is basically the same name?! We'd use Leand for short probably

sweetnosugar · 18/06/2020 14:08

I personally think Leonidas and Leander are to similar! Just my input there.
Go for Xander! ☺️
