Hi, do you think the name Jesse goes with Ben (big brother) or is it too different styles?
(Big sisters are Emily & Ellena (Ellie)
Thank you x

It goes with Ben. Same sort of style.

DramaAlpaca · 12/06/2020 02:48

Both are Old Testament so yes, they are the same style and go together.

elfran · 12/06/2020 08:32

Yes, I think they go really well together. Love both names.

daisypond · 12/06/2020 08:37

Meant to add, though both are OT names, Ben is more classic and Jesse isn’t. Possibly also because Ben is also short for Benedict as well as Benjamin.

BeMorePacific · 12/06/2020 08:57

I really love the name Jesse 😍

Cornishmumofone · 12/06/2020 08:59

My ex BIL is called Jesse. He hates it. He is quite tall, so people think it's hilarious to call him 'big Jesse'. Also, despite the difference in spelling, a lot of people assume it's a girls' name.

CoalCraft · 12/06/2020 10:14

I think it works well

Whatsyourflava · 12/06/2020 15:58

Ah what a lovely combination @Tutina02

I love love love Jesse by the way

Quizeerascal · 12/06/2020 16:51

Yes, they go well together imo. Lots of Bens seem to have brothers called Joshua so Jesse feels a bit fresher but in the same kind of vein.

KatherineJaneway · 12/06/2020 16:53

I like it but would spell it Jessie personally.

Grufallosfriends · 12/06/2020 16:57

Jessie is cute but I'd use Jessica on the bc.

daisypond · 12/06/2020 17:01

For those saying Jessie or Jessica, those are girls’ names. Jesse is a boys’ name.

KatherineJaneway · 12/06/2020 17:15

Sorry, natural assumption went to a girls name Blush

I dont think they go, they are pretty different to me Jesse is very 1800s country/western frontier and your other childrens names aren't

My sons name is Jesse and honestly I wouldnt pick names like Ben, Ellen or Emily as they give an entirely different vibe (absoloutly nothing wrong with them as names they just arent my personal taste but Jesse very much is so it feels like they are very different)

AuntieStella · 12/06/2020 20:01

Jesse would be fine in USA, but it's problematic here because of the firmly established Scottish (and n English and perhaps elsewhere) insult 'big Jesse'

Exercise caution

Exercise caution

its 75 in the UK naming charts and rising quickly and its my sons name and I know another Jesse too and only 2 people have mention the phrase 'big Jesse' and both where men in their 70s, its very much an 'uncool' dying phrase along with 'fairy' and 'poofter'
mam0918 · 12/06/2020 20:40

most peoples first response is 'like Jesse James?'

AuntieStella · 12/06/2020 20:49

I wouldn't mention it in front of an actual person with the name. No one with any manners would.

And even though people might not use the slurs you mention so readily, we all know what they mean. And I do not share your reliance on the assumption that they have gone away. Which is why caution is needed.

daisypond · 12/06/2020 21:24

the insult 'big Jesse'

The insult is big Jessie. With the I. The girl’s name. Like saying someone is a girl- in a negative way. Jesse is a boy’s name. I don’t think Jesse and Jessie are even pronounced the same.

Glittercandle · 12/06/2020 21:27

I love the name Jesse and considered it but didn’t use it as I thought it would probably lead to bullying.

Grufallosfriends · 13/06/2020 08:20

Jesse pronounced like Jessie? That sounds very feminine to me. Sounds like it's a nickname for Jessica or Jess.
