Hello,

We're thinking of making the baby Adalay Patrica Allen (common last name) if the baby is a girl but I'm not too sure, what do you guys think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RJnomore1 · 10/06/2020 18:05

It’s a bit of a tongue twister with your second name?

MrsEricBana · 10/06/2020 18:06

I do like it but it sounds so much like Adelaide that I'd thing you'd/she'd said that. I love the name Adelaide (showing my age...Adelaide Adams)

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/06/2020 18:07

Is it pronounced like Adelaide? Like Add-ee-lay?

I think the alliteration might be a bit of a struggle but honestly she won't have to use both names together all that often.

Spaceforces · 10/06/2020 18:08

If you introduced her to me in person I'd probably think it's Adelaide. I don't even know how I'd pronounce it if I saw it written.

Ah-dah-lay?
A-dalay?

DramaAlpaca · 10/06/2020 18:11

Like others I'd assume I'd misheard Adelaide. It really doesn't go well with the surname.

Reader1984 · 10/06/2020 18:13

I know someone called Adalee which is quite nice.

FawnDrench · 10/06/2020 19:21

Not very keen as it's a bit too much with the surname.

mum2jakie · 10/06/2020 19:24

I'd think you were saying Adelaide too. Which is a beautiful name!

QuentinQuarantino · 10/06/2020 19:26

Adalay is horrendous.

Adelaide is lovely. Addie is such a cute nn as well.

FelicityPike · 10/06/2020 19:28

Nah. I’d also think Adelaide....and not with your surname. Sorry.

MrsGrindah · 10/06/2020 19:29

This will be your child’s experience:

“Adelaide ? No? What? How are you spelling that.Adelay?. No? Adellay? “ And so on and so on.

It’s a nice sounding name though

adelaya · 10/06/2020 19:46

It's alright 😉

StayAlert · 10/06/2020 20:09

Adalay sounds like a made up, trying to be different name to me.

Adelaide is nice though- and I'm sure many people will think Adalay is called Adelaide anyway!

Betty98 · 10/06/2020 20:10

Adelaide Allen is lovely. Agree with PP about Adalay.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 10/06/2020 20:13

Like Leela's horrible boyfriend in Futurama?

HeronLanyon · 10/06/2020 20:13

No great to my ear. Just think Adelaide. Then think why make up a name that sounds like Adelaide. Adele ? Lovely name. Adeline ? (Not fond personally but it’s a name !)
Congrats op. And good luck with the name.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/06/2020 20:13

Adalay lends itself to cruel, crude "humour" in High School

"I'd lay"

HeronLanyon · 10/06/2020 20:14

Oh ‘a delay’ unfortunate.

HeronLanyon · 10/06/2020 20:14

Or ‘had a lay’

ifigoup · 10/06/2020 20:22

I know a girl called Adalai (rhymes with “had a pie”) - are you pronouncing Adalay like that too?

HeronLanyon · 10/06/2020 20:23

Oh and mans name Adlai as in Stevenson.

CatPeach · 10/06/2020 20:25

Love it.

TiptopJ · 10/06/2020 20:44

Im not sure how you pronounce it so I'm reading it as ad-ah-lay which I dont think really works with your surname.

Adelaide is okay because the d breaks it up, without it it just roles into one.

user1493494961 · 10/06/2020 20:51

Sounds made-up.

bridgetreilly · 10/06/2020 22:19

I would call her Adelaide Patricia, personally. Two misspelled names is really too much for any child.
