Love it!

Diverseduvet · 06/06/2020 23:20

Please don't

Diverseduvet · 06/06/2020 23:21

Try Viva?

AudacityOfHope · 06/06/2020 23:22

You can't genuinely think that's the most lovely girls name in the whole world.

Try thinking about how you'd feel if you had to introduce yourself as Vera.

brownhazelgreen · 06/06/2020 23:56

I'd really like it as my own name, yes. I wouldn't consider giving my child a name I hated.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/06/2020 23:57

No, it's awful.

Tillygetsit · 06/06/2020 23:57

I love it. To me it sounds soft and pretty and I'd put it with names like Fern and Hazel.

eandz13 · 06/06/2020 23:58

I think it's a beautiful name.

Rainbowb · 06/06/2020 23:58

Er no.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 06/06/2020 23:58

Vera Duckworth, Coronation Street.

apapuchi · 07/06/2020 00:02

I love it and love the meaning especially but have to admit am put off by the old lady and Corrie association. I do love the actress Vera Farmiga so that balances it a bit for me 😂

My husband is from a Spanish-speaking country so I would be tempted, also love Alma (soul) and Paz (peace).

BackforGood · 07/06/2020 00:04

Please no.
As bad as Maud.

mathanxiety · 07/06/2020 00:11

Beautiful, one of the granny chic names that really deserves to come back. I know two under age five.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/06/2020 00:17

I don't love but also don't understand the horrified posts.

To me, it sounds timeless, pretty, and similar to words like verity (truth) and verdant (green).

DramaAlpaca · 07/06/2020 00:21

If it's pronounced 'verra' as it is in parts of Eastern Europe, I think it's really beautiful and elegant.

However in the UK it'll be 'veera' and to me that is not an attractive name at all.

Pinkypink · 07/06/2020 07:37

Will always have the Duckworth association for me.

I think Hera is cute. Was mentioned on another thread as alternative to Hero.

Grufallosfriends · 07/06/2020 07:57

I like it.

I also pronounce it Vera and not Veera.

Dovefeather · 07/06/2020 08:06

I actually prefer the Vee-rah pronounciation.

I know 1 Vera who pronounces it Verrah (to rhyme with terror and I really don’t like it personally and others also mixed up the pronounciation.

Carolebaskins · 07/06/2020 08:09

Vomiting Vera is the baby on Horrid Henry

Grufallosfriends · 07/06/2020 08:09

Given how Verity and Very are pronounced, Vera should be pronounced Vera and not Veera?!

I know a Veronica nickname Vera (not Veera).

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 07/06/2020 08:27

I like old lady names but there are much nicer ones out there than Vera....

redwoodmazza · 07/06/2020 08:29

Duckworth...

florababy84 · 07/06/2020 08:44

There was a little Vera in my baby group when DC was born 7 years ago. I remember thinking it was an odd choice but obviously the parents loved it. To me it falls in the category of old-fashioned grandma but not pretty, much like Mavis, Beryl, Gertie.

rooarsome · 07/06/2020 09:16

To me it's a granny name but not granny chic. Sorry OP.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 07/06/2020 09:21

Really don't like. It's in the Gladys category for me.
