Thoughts on the name Margot? Husband and I like it. We also have a daughter named
Maeve and wondered if they go well together. Also any other suggestions on girls and boys names to go with Maeve?

Thank you

Love it. Was on my list when pregnant with DD but DH wasn't keen, I think if he had liked it we would have gone with it!

Think it sounds lovely with your other DD name too.

mydailymailhell · 06/06/2020 15:47

I love this name and it would have been on my list of if I had girls. Because it’s such a lovely name it is very popular - there are two in my son’s nursery class so that’s something to bear in mind if that matters at all to you.

Toilenstripes · 06/06/2020 15:48

I love it. It’s old-style sophisticated.

LotusClover · 06/06/2020 15:50

Really strongly dislike it sorry. It has a horrible whiny sound and it doesn't look nice written down, in fact it kind of looks like "maggot". I hate to say it, but it's probably my least favourite girls name.

Maeve on the other hand is lovely, one of my top favourite girls names.

Love your daughters name!
Not sure on the name Margot, something about it I don’t really like. Confused
How about Marnie?

babysnowman · 06/06/2020 16:00

Love it

Spied · 06/06/2020 16:04

I really dislike Margot.
70's Hyacinth Bucket type of woman with a hostess trolley always springs to mind.
Sorry.

God no. It's awful. Agree it looks like maggot. How about another Irish name, such as Roisin (Row-sheen) or Aithne or Aisling? (Ashling.)

richele4 · 06/06/2020 16:14

I don't like it either sorry. It's doesn't sound very nice and the first thing I thought of was Margot Frank (Anne Frank's sister) but that might be because DS is learning about them at the moment.

Absolutely love it. One of my very favourite names. Never met one despite last 4 years at baby groups

SoberCurious · 06/06/2020 16:33

It really does look like Maggot.

SoberCurious · 06/06/2020 16:34

Margaux would be a nicer spelling imo.

Whatsyourflava · 06/06/2020 16:35

I'd go with Margot as it's so beautiful but if not how about Maggie or Marnie or Molly

Sleepyquest · 06/06/2020 16:37

I love it and DD nearly was Margot but it just didn't fit when I saw her little face

snowone · 06/06/2020 16:39

We've got a Maggie - I'm not sure on Margot, I don't hate it but I don't love it either.

JoeExoticsPrinceAlbert · 06/06/2020 16:40

Agree with @LotusClover, all I can think of when I see it is maggot

sunlightflower · 06/06/2020 16:41

I think it goes really well with Maeve.

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2020 16:42

I don't like Margot at all. The spoken sound of it isn't nice to my ears and it looks so ugly and hard written down. It doesn't go with Maeve at all in my view.

Sirthanksalot · 06/06/2020 16:50

I think is lovely and does look nice written down

starrynight19 · 06/06/2020 16:52

I love it , think it’s a timeless classic

WinnieWonder · 06/06/2020 16:53

I love it. My 17 year old would have been margot but her father hated it :-(
I love Maeve but i dont think they go together in a good way.

One is soft and faerie queen like, one is porch sitter chic.

Victoria6386 · 06/06/2020 16:54

Love it

Oh, I love Margot so much. We were going to use it for this baby, due in September, but I have unfortunately decided not to, as it is rocketing up the popularity charts. It’s just entered the top 100, and rising sharply.

It’s so wonderfully old fashioned, sophisticated and strong. I love that hard ‘g’ followed up by the soft ‘o’ which gives it a perfect balance. I love the way, when said, aloud, it sounds unapologetically upper class (well, I suppose this is hugely dependent on accent - my accent is RP. There is a little Margot who lives not far from me, and her parents have a slightly East London accent, which I admit I feel strips the name of some of its power, but that’s just my secret snobbery speaking). In fact, that couple have just had a new baby named Maeve, and I thought the two names went perfectly together.

So in short, I adore the name. It conjures up an image for me of an independent, slightly mysterious, educated, intelligent woman, perhaps ever so slightly intimidating in her brilliance.

TabbyMumz · 06/06/2020 17:36

I love the name Margot.
