Afternoon! Hope the sun is shining wherever you are ☀️ I am considering using Drew for either DD or DS. What are your thoughts on the name on a boy and girl? Thanks x

Shortening of Andrew, Andrew should be on the birth certificate. Drew sounds incomplete as a stand alone name. It's OK I suppose.

Definitely shouldn't be a girl's name! Yes I know about Drew Barrymore - but is it even her real name? If so, her parents were misguided.

LadyFeliciaMontague · 02/06/2020 16:41

I’ve only ever known one Drew (M) in my life & I’m 42.

It’s lovely and suits either but, despite Drew Barrymore, I always think of it as a male name.

S/He will be the only one in their class. I was going to say be prepared for people to say they don’t like it (as per pp) and, if you love a name, you shouldn’t share it with ANYONE because someone is bound to ruin it for you.

PetuniaPots · 02/06/2020 16:45

Yes it's definitely going to be Drew and not Andrew as it is a name in its own right. Thanks @LadyFeliciaMontague 😘

I know a Drew (male), lovely bloke. I do think of Drew Pritchard from Salvage Hunters though, who I think is a massive twat, as well as Drew Barrymore. I think I prefer it for a girl although I think it's a nice name for either!

M0mmyneedswine · 02/06/2020 16:46

I like it prefer it for a boy but could be either

Funtcase95 · 02/06/2020 16:47

@Pemba I do believe it is her real, full name.

MaccaPacca81 · 02/06/2020 16:47

I think his mates will call him droopy

PetuniaPots · 02/06/2020 16:49

@MaccaPacca81 in our area and accent it isn't pronounced as "Droo" it's more like "Dr-ew" so I think we'd get away with that one for him/her in school 👍🏼

This is my daughters name. We named her after my partner, her dad. The baby was going to be Drew boy or girl. Just so happens she was a girl. Had some questions at first but most people say they like it and it’s quirky, suits her and I now I don’t even think of it being a boys name. Smile

SnowdropFox · 02/06/2020 18:12

I like it. More than Andrew for a boy too. Go for it!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/06/2020 19:06

Drew for a boy- I like it, tad american the whole surname first name thing but sounds strong and confident.
For a girl- awful, tacky!

Blursula · 02/06/2020 19:14

I like it and prefer it to Andrew. I actually think I prefer it on a girl - very cool

june2007 · 02/06/2020 19:18

Drew Barymore is named afterher dad so yes it still is a boys name short for Andrew. Not keen on it,s own.

Theforest · 02/06/2020 19:22

I like it. I dont really associate it with Andrew at all strangely enough

123Dancewithme · 02/06/2020 21:26

I prefer it on a girl.

petermaysawthefuture · 02/06/2020 21:35

Love it, went to school with a Drew. Never met anyone else called it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/06/2020 22:32

I like it for a boy or girl

PetuniaPots · 02/06/2020 22:33

Love to hear some of you have lovely associations.

@dailyduckie how lovely! I really love it on a girl too and may very well be like you, and just want to see what he/she is 😍

Dreary.

JuneJuly · 02/06/2020 22:54

I like it for either too.

And, although it obviously comes from Andrew, I see it as a name in it's own right now also. More so than the other nn, Andy, would be. It's a bit like Liam being a standalone name, although it's the end part of William.

feliciabirthgiver · 02/06/2020 22:58

I like it for either girl or boy, also like a Daryl for a girl.

PetuniaPots · 02/06/2020 23:11

I agree @JuneJuly it is very much it's own name and has a totally different feel to Drew. Great point re Liam/William.

We also considered Andra for a girl.

PetuniaPots · 02/06/2020 23:15

Different to Andrew I meant, sorry.

DailyDuckie · 02/06/2020 23:39

@PetuniaPots yeah why not? ☺️ It's something different for a girl but It's all down to personal opinions I just see it as you could have a really common name and some people will still not like it. Do what suits you best. Good luck 😘 xx

jackstini · 02/06/2020 23:43

I like it, it's quite a strong name on a girl and can't be shortened

For a boy it's cool, very different vibe to Andrew
