What 3 Girls names wouldn't you choose?

I have 1&2 year old Dds and very rarely see their names suggested on here....Dd2s name has started to appear but only once I've spotted Dd1s...!
What names wouldn't you choose and why?

(DD1s was a snap decision after birth, had already decided something else but went for something I'd always loved....regretted it, but does suit her!)

Ella.
Isla
Sadie.
Can't give a reason why. I just don't like the sound of them

JustALittlePinot · 02/06/2020 10:10

Eva
Ava
Mia

They’re everywhere.

itsme · 02/06/2020 10:12

Lily
Eva/Ava
Amelia

Just too many around!

PrimeraVez · 02/06/2020 10:12

Eva/Evie - pretty but too over used
Arabella/Annabella/Isabella - too flouncy for my taste
Lily - dunno, just don’t like the sound of it!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 02/06/2020 10:12

I'm not wild on double barrelled names. Showing my age but not keen on Sally and Anne. Or 'old lady' names like Mabel that came around again.
But it's so subjective - names I dislike are rooted in associations with people I didn't like. Or they have other negative associations not shared by others. What I consider ugly sounding, someone else will consider beautiful and vice versa.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/06/2020 10:15

Evie
Esther
Scarlett.

Madison
Norah
Bella.

Again just don't like them.

Taddda · 02/06/2020 10:27

After not spotting Dd1s name on any name thread its appeared in the first 4 posts of this!.....(Dd2s second choice name also on here...) It was way to popular, snap decision, didn't bother checking!

Sophie
Olivia
Emily

(I could keep going: Emma, Amelia, Eva, Grace...such boring, wallpaper names!).

userabcname · 02/06/2020 10:52

Mia - too popular
Elsie - don't like the sound
Mabel - this seems to get a lot of love on here and I just don't get it!

FeedMeSantiago · 02/06/2020 10:55

Jessica - school bully
Sarah - again, school bully and so popular in the 80s, there were loads at school with me
Amelia - yet again, school bully but also because of the medical term

Nothing wrong with any of those names, just that I associate each of them with someone unpleasant.

Miriel · 02/06/2020 10:57

Madison - son of Maud
Elsie - old lady, Victorian housemaid, cow
Harleigh - surnamey, hate spellings with gh in them

Haz1516 · 02/06/2020 10:59

Nora - doesn't sound 'pretty' to me, but I know quite a few babies called it.
Olivia - too unoriginal now that it's been #1 for so long.
Mia - and most names like this at the moment, Isla, Ella, Ava... all blur together.

Twisique · 02/06/2020 11:16

Briony Romilly Lexie

CeibaTree · 02/06/2020 11:18

Maisie - I find it so twee
Effie - ugly sound to me
Olivia - I actually love this name, but it is ridiculously popular

SporadicNamechange · 02/06/2020 11:27

Only 3? I’ve got a list as long as my arm. 😆

It depends on the context. I wouldn’t choose most of the currently popular names for girls. Especially not all the ones with millions of syllables.

But I also wouldn’t choose any of the names that were popular when I was a baby. Or when my mum was a baby either.

And I wouldn’t inflict my own name on anyone. It’s dire.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/06/2020 11:29

I second Effie.
Olive
Aurelia.

SuperMedium · 02/06/2020 11:33

I wouldn't choose a short form/ nickname

nor a surname as first name (especially anything containing "son" for a girl - what's the logic in people's heads when they call a girl child Name-son?

I also don't like former boys names used for girls (because I have one and my experience of it is more negative than positive, though not enough to bother with the conflict involved in changing it)

nor anything which sounds "made up" as though it's from StarWars or a fantasy genre TV series or film Grin.

There are a few specific names I would like if it weren't for the association's they have for me (not personal associations, things like Jude the obscure - how could you name a child after such a desperately unhappy, unfortunate character who's son of the same name murdered his younger siblings because he misunderstood something he overheard Sad ... even though I assume people who use the name haven't read the book or it wasn't significant enough to them to overshadow the name, and the children aren't named "after" the character!)

Cutesy or out there "I'm so cutting edge" names chosen for a baby-as-fashion accessory/ statement piece apparently forgetting he or she will grow up and be a separate person would be the last category.

It doesn't matter though does it; you can't please everyone and wouldn't want to. You just have to choose the name you think will be the right one for your child.

AdelaideK · 02/06/2020 11:37

Elizabeth - seems popular on here but it's such an ugly sounding name.
Ophelia - so try hard.
Grace - frumpy

Lavenderblues · 02/06/2020 11:37

I'd avoid anything too common/fashionable like
Eva/Evie
Ella/Ellie
Sophia/Sophie
Bella, Belle
Maia/Mia/Maya
Emily/Amelie
Etc etc

I much prefer beautiful uncommon names that are more memorable!

Lavenderblues · 02/06/2020 11:38

And yes, I'd avoid WAY more than just 3 WinkGrin

TheWashingMachine · 02/06/2020 11:39

I actually love most of the names mentioned on this thread. My own is already here, it is popular now but was pretty much unheard of when I was a child. I really am not keen on Welsh names but I'm not Welsh. I also don't like surnames as girls names, for example, Cameron, Mackenzie, Madison.

Plumpi · 02/06/2020 11:39

Ella
Madison
Isla

Not sure why.

FranklyDearIDontRiverdance · 02/06/2020 11:41

Is it Lily-Mae?

There seemed to be a spurt of them around here.

I’m not a fan of:

Mia
Lexie
Maddie/Harley/anything along those lines
