Special family member called Donna, what alternatives would you suggest for DD?

Give it as a middle name

Dozer · 28/05/2020 07:58

Dara

Dorothea

If you’re picking an alternative, you’re not using it.

You don’t have to name your child after someone if you don’t like the name.

Use it as a middle name if you feel you can’t get out of it.

midnightstar66 · 28/05/2020 08:04

I like donatella but it makes me think of a ninja turtle 😆. Diona is a Greek girls name meaning divine

reefedsail · 28/05/2020 08:04

Belladonna
Donika (Danika)
Donnie
Liridona

I did a search for 'baby names containing don'. Those were the ones I liked.

Piggyhoolier · 28/05/2020 08:05

Just my view, but if you want to honour someone by passing on their name then only the same name will do. And if you don’t like the name enough to really want it, using as a middle name is good. But saying you’ve named your new DD Demi after her Nan Donna isn't really honouring anyone.

Whatsyourflava · 28/05/2020 08:05

Iona ?

Mucklowe · 28/05/2020 08:24

Donna is a stunning name! Use that. Anything else just isn't a tribute.

Haz1516 · 28/05/2020 08:29

Dana
Shona
Bonnie
Kyla

I love Belladonna, you could nn her Bella.

NameChange84 · 28/05/2020 08:37

Belladonna as in “deadly nightshade” or “the devil’s berry”? It’s a plant. The berries kill children if eaten in large quantities. It’s a bit like the name “Morticia”, ok if you are an Adams!

pictish · 28/05/2020 08:44

You can’t honour someone’s name with an alternative...so it’s middle name or forget it.

CeibaTree · 28/05/2020 08:45

Agree with pp, if you are using the name to honour someone, then it has to be the actual name or there is no point. I wouldn't use it as a first name as I think it's very dated, but not dated enough to be back in fashion. But it would make a perfect middle name.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 28/05/2020 08:46

I really like Donna!

seriousandloyal · 28/05/2020 08:46

Summer!

mrsnec · 28/05/2020 09:01

I might go against the grain here. I wanted to honour my dgm when I named dd. Her name was Yvonne but she was known as Bonnie. DH vetoed both. He didn't want his dgm honoured either because he didn't like her name. The suggestion on here was Eve as a middle name as a compromise DH loved the idea and it was enough of a tribute for me.

How about Dee?

Onekidnoclue · 28/05/2020 09:48

@mrsnec sorry to be a thick but I don’t understand how you get Eve from Yvonne and Bonnie? Was is your DGMs middle name?
Sorry to go off topic OP!

35andThriving · 28/05/2020 10:08

Donatella Smile I am pretty sure it means beautiful gift.

abiirthdaycake · 28/05/2020 10:11

@Onekidnoclue Yvonne - eve-onne?

Singingatmidnight · 28/05/2020 10:21

Dora

mrsnec · 28/05/2020 10:53

It was as @abirthdaycake says. I was just making a point that the 'eve'' sound was enough of a compromise for me. And I just found it interesting that when I asked the same question on here the consensus was it's a good idea to use something similar as a compromise. Nobody said it's pointless using a different name.

I like Dora, Dana and Iona.
