What do we think of Aster?

I stumbled on the name Aster the other day. It is a type of flower (like a daisy) but it also the romanised version of the Hebrew name Esther. I also love that it has the same sound as the first female MP to take her seat in the Commons.

What do people think?

I would think of Aster as a boys name. Like Acer or Alister. Not many (any?) girls names end in -er.

I'm another who automatically thought La vista baby, then I thought of the flower, and finally asteroid.

Not great, and if I encountered the name in real life I would also think it belonged to a boy / man.

I think of the little girl on Dexter but she spelt it Astor

I like Aster for a girl, wouldn't think of the Terminator reference at all (without meaning to offend, I think you might have to be of a certain age for that to be a relevant reference).

I thought of Lady Astor too OP, and the daisy link is sweet.

I like it. But wondering if will be a name that will constantly need correcting, if misheard for Esther/Hester. Sounds a girls name to me, not many DS are named with floral connections. I also like the name Azelea too for a girl.

It's the name of our local
Housing association so I wouldn't use it.

I think it’s a good find-unusual but classy! I don’t think knit matters if people might assume a boy’s name initially.

I like it and would immediately think of the daisy-like flower. So definitely feminine to me.

The stepdaughter in Dexter was called Astor. I always liked it though at first i thought she was called Asda.

I like it - I love aster flowers and the meaning ‘star’ and we actually considered it for DD. But in hindsight I’m glad we didn’t choose it as I’m pretty sure it would just end up being confused with Asda by lots of people!
