From reading MN posts we seem to be drawn to posh, pretentious and snobby names (as called by users), I like them personally. Looking for some more suggestions for DS/DD please x

How else should we describe such names? Classy? Elegant? Rather than 'Posh'?

Glowcat · 27/05/2020 21:22

I love Lettice but unless I was living in a Jeeves and Wooster book I know I could never use it.

Glowcat · 27/05/2020 21:24

I think Mary is quite posh now.

Fred578 · 27/05/2020 21:25

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/05/2020 21:27

These kind of names are my sweet spot. My sister has the same taste so my mum’s going to end up with a very posh sounding selections of DGCs 😂

This baby will be either Cressida or Ivo.

OhTheRoses · 27/05/2020 21:38

Probably out of date but DC's private school classes:

Edward x 2, James x 3, Tom x 3/4, Will 3/4, Freddie x 3, Henry/Harry (soo many), George, Mark, Christian, Ben +, Sam +, Nick+ with a few Sebs, Tristans, Theo's thrown in, and of course the forrin ones.

Imogen x 4, Jess x 2, Maddie x 3, Alice (probably x 3 squared), Rosie ++, Elizabeth ++, Katie ++, Cicely, Tilly ++, Ellie, Poppy, Zara and add in a few Christabel's, Antonia's, Olympias and again the forrin/international set.

Glad to see my DD has a posh name. We are actually very (materially) poor Sad.

victorianbombshelter · 28/05/2020 08:27

@justamumof1 rich in love, no doubt. Materials and money aren't everything. Family and love is everything and more ❤️❤️❤️ xx

Which are your favourites? Please tell!
Also thought of Clarissa. Great name.

Money really has nothing to do with it! Agree that love and moral values are far more important. I don't understand why only 'rich' people should use certain names Confused

justamumof1 · 28/05/2020 10:25

Well the rich dont really like the lower classes using "their" names.

Not sure where I read it, Freakonomics maybe, but middle/upper class names go out of popularity the more the lower classes use them...or something like that

Movinghouseatlast · 28/05/2020 11:20

If you refer to a child as a tot that puts you squarely at the down market end of naming I would have thought!

It is one of my pet hatrs, sorry! Tot is just awful.

victorianbombshelter · 28/05/2020 12:50

@Movinghouseatlast I may use the first name Tot in that case but I'll be sure to use ‘offspring’ or ‘infants’ for any future posts not to offend you further. Thank you though, for not writing anything remotely helpful in response to my thread, I'm so glad you took the time to discuss that one work from the name of the thread to drew my attention to it. I'd never have considered it as a first name before now... Maybe I'll call her Tot Moving just after you 😉
