Looking for a classic name for James' little sister to be.
Comments welcome. I like these two and underused I think?

Got a friend called Julia - she hates being called Julie and you know if she doesn't like you cos if you call her Jules she will correct you! Classic name though. Think Juliet will always have the spelling issue - Juliet or Juliette?

mistermagpie · 23/05/2020 23:59

Juliet was on my list for DD, I love it. Maybe it's my accent but I can't seem to pronounce it more than one way - Julie-et is how it sounds.

Julia is lovely too, I've never met one but I know a few Julie's!

PetraRabbit · 23/05/2020 23:59

Julia is so pretty. It's grander and more feminine. Juliet has a more serious, studious feel to it.

Edenember · 24/05/2020 02:57

Another vote for Juliet

FollowYourOwnNorthStar · 24/05/2020 03:09

Juliana

(Rhymes with banana)

ElizabethMainwaring · 24/05/2020 03:37

I once knew a little Juilita.
She was Polish and lovely.
I prefer Juliet to Julia. To me Julia sounds middle aged. No offense, I am middle aged!

downtheplug · 24/05/2020 05:33

Juliette

Singingatmidnight · 24/05/2020 07:42

Julia. We used it as a middle name - it's a great middle name with almost anything!

justlooking1 · 24/05/2020 08:30

32thistimelastweek julia sounds mellifluous? Wow had to look that word up but love the idea of Julia being a sweetly melodic name.

42Singingatmidnight says Julia could be seen as middle aged yhough- thoughts anyone?

No. Names that fit grown-ups are good. Julia suits all ages. I know a Julia and three Juliets. The Julia is 30s. Two Juliets are 50s, one 30s. So, if anything, Juliet is the middle aged name.

Beingslightlymad · 24/05/2020 08:39

I like Julia but I agree that for a child Juliet sounds preferable. Would you be pronouncing Lucia loo chee a or Loo see a ? and I know girls with both pronounciations.

justlooking1 · 24/05/2020 08:44

Loo see ah as softer sounding I think

Julia, I'm fairly young and up until recently I would have preferred Julie but I feel its quite harsh and people might shorten it to Julie which is outdated, Julia seems quite pretty

zigaziga · 24/05/2020 08:46

Juliet is on my list should I ever have another one.

Dollywilde · 24/05/2020 08:48

Juliet is my preference but I prefer Juliana to both.

KingPrawnOkay · 24/05/2020 08:48

Neither are my cup of tea but I think Juliette over Julia. It’s not a stretch to use Julia as a NN anyway so you could have both!

stellabluesky · 24/05/2020 08:50

I love Julia, don't think it's middle aged at all not that I think that matters about a name as we all get older ( if we're lucky) so any name will eventually become middle aged.

I'm not keen on Juliet but that's because I've known three over the years and each of them were difficult personalities, one was at school, always cried if didn't get her own way, got low marks etc, she did this right up until we left sixth form. I suspect she's still behaving like this!

Two Juliets (although one spelt Juliette) at work, one of which was the most passive aggressive person I've ever managed and the other a drama queen prone to tantrums and lies, both didn't deliver and upset the rest of the team, had to be performance managed out so they've all ruined the name Juliet for me!

justlooking1 · 24/05/2020 09:00

50stellabluesky Part of my reasoning was looking for classic names which don't come with preconceptions because of previously known namesakes. Thanks for sharing about your Juliets!!

Julia is definitely my favourite. However I know a Julia and her nn is Jules , sometimes I’ve even heard her referred to as Juju.

Twisique · 24/05/2020 09:52

Juliet or Juliana

Lostvoiced · 24/05/2020 09:54

Juliet!
I've only ever met one Juliet, and that was when I was about 10 and I still think about how lovely a name it is.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 24/05/2020 09:56

Julia

SneakersandSocks · 24/05/2020 10:13

Juliet, I also love Juliana.

PopcornAndWine · 24/05/2020 10:26

Juliet. Would have been a name I would have gone for but DH didn't like it!

Ticklemeelmo · 24/05/2020 10:56

Julia is beautiful, it was on my list of girls names.
