which relates to vulvas/vaginas btw!

It's my mums name
I also have 3 cousins called mary.

I thought it was commonly used as a twee euphemism for female genitals so was surprised to see only one other poster mention it! Having had a google though perhaps that’s just an Irish thing?

Eggybreadleg · 19/05/2020 22:42

Love it. Marie is also nice.

SallyWD · 19/05/2020 22:46

I've always loved it. One of my favourites.

I had a Mary, 20 odd years ago, and in a class of Emma, Emily, Phoebe, Milly, Molly etc it worked well: easy to spell, recognisable, and not as popular as most of the others. The same criteria apply I think: still underused, still timeless and classic.

My middle name is Mary. Around Xmas time there were always plenty of jokes, particularly if there were any Joes in the class.

Nothing wrong with the name, but worth considering.

I'm 28 and I remember a boy in my class whose mum was called Mary and everyone saying it was an old lady name. This name is so so so dull and boring please don't give your child this hideous name

Smile19 · 23/05/2020 10:21

Lovely! Use it! I liked it but I have a Joseph...

I love it- on my list. For some reason despite all the glaringly more obvious religious associations, it makes me think of the little girl from 3 men and a little lady first 😂 I think because it was the first time I’d seen it used on a little one and saw how much it suited her, despite it being quite an old lady name at the time. It always struck me as an off kilter choice at the time and I then found it easy to imagine on a child.

Almost certainly going to call my daughter this! I love it. It’s classic but I think will he rare now. I’m Irish and have considered Irish names but i don’t want her to face spelling issues in the UK. This is a very “Irish” name without any of those problems.
