Saffie or Emmie or neither?!

Hi everyone!
I’m a FTM due my little girl in July, currently 29 weeks. For the first few months me and DH couldn’t agree on any names - we both like Evie for a while, but that didn’t last long!

I then suggested Saffie which we both REALLY liked, and decided that was THE name... but last few days I’m having doubts!

I know it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. But I keep thinking of other people’s opinions, and can’t see anyone liking it very much! What do you think?? Is it a nice name, or am I being silly?!

I love Emmie, but DH not keen at all. Should I try and convince him, stick with Saffie, or give up on both and try something else?! 😂

Middle name will be Rae, as that’s my sisters name 😊 x

I hate names ending with ie. Especially followed by Rae...

EngagedAgain · 13/05/2020 23:03

On the back of another name thread (which I like, name threads that is) I suddenly realised how nick names seem to have either replaced the full name or right from the word go parents want to call them by a nick name. I guess things have changed but in the past a nick name/shortened version would happen later on as a natural gradual progression, or not even until they were young adults. I'm not against it, it's just an observation.

putastrawunderbaby · 13/05/2020 23:07

What about Effie?

indemMUND · 13/05/2020 23:17

Neither of they're going to be first name instead of nicknames. Better to have a real name to fall back on.

TheRoyallingStones · 13/05/2020 23:26

Of the two I prefer Saffie

But Emma or Saffron would be far better than either

123Dancewithme · 13/05/2020 23:33

Very twee. They’re not going to be little forever, I’d choose something more suitable for an adult woman.

IdblowJonSnow · 13/05/2020 23:35

Emma Rae sounds nice. I really wouldn't want to be saddled with any 'cute' names as an adult. You can call her Emmie when she's little and then when shes older she can make her own mind up.
Emma is a lovely classic name that's never too popular or goes out of fashion completely. Saffron was very trendy a while ago but now I think it sounds a bit naff.

Lala241280 · 13/05/2020 23:40

I have an Emma always was and always will be my favourite girl name ( glad my second baby was a boy)
Emmie is lovely too though

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/05/2020 00:49

I used to teach a Saffy (full name Saffron) and I always liked it. I really like Safiya too.

My daughter has a very similar ‘nickname’ type name and whilst I love it, I am glad she has a ‘proper’ name on her BC to fall back on in more formal situations if she wants.

Aclh13 · 14/05/2020 05:06

If its emmie for Emily or Emma then emmie if it's saffie or emmie as actual names then saffie as Saffron is a harsh name

peachypetite · 14/05/2020 05:09

Emilia? I agree they are nicknames, cute for a little girl but not so adult.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/05/2020 05:13

Emme and Saffy are both great as nicknames. Find a proper name that you like and shorten to them. I love Emmeline.

crystabel · 14/05/2020 06:16

My daughter is Saffron and her nickname is Saffy. It's a personal thing but I don't like the ie spelling. I am Poppy so always found it annoying when people spelt my name Poppie as that is just plain wrong so that's prob why I'm weird about that. Good luck and congrats, I love the name xx

saffy1234 · 14/05/2020 06:45

Oh that's a great name, however I am slightly biased Wink

LittleRa · 14/05/2020 07:37

I prefer Emmie (or Emmy) as Saffie reminds me of Staffie (the breed of dog). But would use Emilia or Emmeline with nickname Emmy.

FeedMeSantiago · 14/05/2020 08:11

I prefer Saffie to Emmie. I would put Saffron or Emma, Emily, Emmeline etc. on the BC though.

Saffie and Emmie are pretty, but she may prefer a more grown up sounding name to fall back on when she's older.

Whatsyourflava · 14/05/2020 08:27

I love Emmie 😍

Weekday28 · 14/05/2020 08:30

I have an Emily who we shorten to Emi.

saffy1234 · 14/05/2020 08:30

Haha @LittleRa that made me laugh out loud my name is saffron and guess what breed my dog is GrinGrin

twinkledag · 14/05/2020 08:39

Emme over Saffie! And please don't make it boring by using it as a nickname for Emma or Emmeline! If you want a longer name use Emiliana.

What about Safiya or Safina as a longer version of Saffie?

VerityB1 · 14/05/2020 09:03

Of the 2 I prefer Saffie ... because to my ear sounds more like a name in it's own right, whereas with Emmie, have only heard it used as a name of an endearment for people called Emma.

I think Saffie sounds nice thru all ages and you are adult for most of your life.

Good luck though, sure your baby with be amazing and wonderful.

LittleRa · 14/05/2020 09:05

@saffy1234 Grin You could be a character in a children’s book like Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy... Saffy with the Staffie Grin

saffy1234 · 14/05/2020 10:23

Hahahaha @LittleRa that made me laugh out loud

sibbys · 14/05/2020 13:31

Really love Emmy - spelt this way.

daphnerose · 18/05/2020 17:30

My nickname is Saffie (my mother’s name is Daphne) and I love it more than my real name. It is easy but cute. I love the soft S at the start of the name and the f in the middle.

My other nickname is Saffron and it’s gorgeous too. If I were in your shoes I’d choose Saffron as the longer name.
