What do you think of the name? My next door neighbour growing up was a lovely little lady called Elsie and I think it’s adorable so I’d love to use it! My only worry is that it’s too old fashioned and I can’t see it on a teenager/ adult.... What do you think? It would be Elsie Elizabeth as a full name. My only other idea is ottilie (nn ottie) opinions would be great Thankyou! ☺️

A dreadful name. My aunt was called Elsie but you would never have guessed - she used something else because she hated it from a young age.

merryhouse · 13/05/2020 22:12

I like Elsie.

Ottilie is eugh (and Ottie is even worse).

IHateCoronavirus · 13/05/2020 22:15

I have taught 3 Elsies. All absolute gems. The oldest is now 11, then 5 and 4.
Based on those children alone I would say you can’t go wrong with Elsie.

Whatsyourflava · 13/05/2020 22:45

Love both Elsie and Ottilie
I really wouldn't worry about "would it suit a teenager". You're imagining yourself called Elsie as a teenager and yes I agree there were no names like Elsie around then and yes it may have sounded odd
Your Elsie will be a teenager with all the Edith, , Albert, Arthur, Ronnie's and so one. Remember to imagine a teenager in 2035 not a teenager in the 1990s!

Love it. If I had another girl I'd seriously consider it. A bit of an old Scottish name but I think it's lovely.

My Scottish Grandmother was called Elsie.

I don’t mind Elsie as a nn for Elizabeth. I definitely wouldn’t use Elizabeth as a middle name! It would be like Becky Rebecca or Kitty Katherine.

123Dancewithme · 13/05/2020 23:30

It’s also quite popular, close to the top 20. I know a few little Elsies.

june2007 · 13/05/2020 23:31

I prefer Elizabeth and then shorth. It,s a 90 old lady,s name.

Neolara · 13/05/2020 23:33

It's horrible. Sorry.

SecondaryBurnzzz · 13/05/2020 23:34

Elspeth is a gorgeous name, Elsie for short, she could call herself 'Speth when a teen....

Arseit · 13/05/2020 23:37

Hate it - dreary, dull and boring. (And I have a boring name)
Ottilie is far more interesting and unusual, without being too out there.

Aclh13 · 14/05/2020 05:19

It's one of the old fashioned names I do love, however I agree above it is vcommon now and also I know two dogs also called Elsie and a dog called isla which is the sister one so I'd have a think x

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 14/05/2020 05:27

Awful sorry. It's very twee.

theBelgranoSisters · 14/05/2020 05:41

Its ok-but there are better and more original names out there if you're going the ye old timey route.Just look through the end creds of a couple of 1950s European movies for some inspiration : )

copperoliver · 14/05/2020 05:45

I adore Elsie that is in my list of favourite girls names, I would have definitely called a girl Elsie. X

pumpkinpie01 · 14/05/2020 06:20

My dd18 is Elise , when she has been to the doctors they have very often called her name out as Elsie and she absolutely hates it . I really don't like Elsie at all to me it just reminds me of an old lady even thou I know of 2 little girls called Elsie.

olympicsrock · 14/05/2020 08:09

My nice Eleanor is Elsie for short. I do like Eleanor Elizabeth and Elsie Olivia

ifigoup · 14/05/2020 08:23

You have a good answer from the thread, OP: Elizabeth on the birth certificate to honour your relative, but Elsie for day-to-day. There are lots of beautiful middle names to go with Elizabeth:

Elizabeth Kate
Elizabeth Anne
Elizabeth Belle
Elizabeth Blythe
Elizabeth Maeve
Elizabeth Claire
Elizabeth Ruth
Elizabeth Faith

chickensaresafehere · 14/05/2020 08:26

My Jack Russell is called Elsie Grin

twinkledag · 14/05/2020 08:42

Too old lady! Prefer Zelda.

twinkledag · 14/05/2020 08:43

I mean Elsa! Bloody autocorrect!

Tsubasa1 · 14/05/2020 08:49

Elsie is nicer than Elizabeth!
