Help, I can't find a single girls name I like

Wanderer1 · 01/05/2020 11:21

I'm 30 weeks with first, don't know what we are having but I've been convinced it's a boy. Because if that I've put little effort into thinking about girls names until now. And I can't find any I like, or any we both like.

I'd love some suggestions - I'll post my criteria

I would like something a bit rarer but not made up. I have ruled out pretty much every name in top 100. Don't like names that are too "girly".

I loved Ivy but it's become very popular.

I like Isabelle as I had a lovely book about an Isabelle when I was little but we've an Annabelle in the family.

We like Aurelia but my OH worries it's too unusual in the uk (we have a German friend of that name)

I like Raven but OH vetoed as too out there/ 'hippy'

I quite like names to have a unisex nick name but not a must.

Can I please have some suggestions? Anything, hit me with them! TIA

I guess just search, search, search. Reddit has a sub reddit called r/namenerds that is often helpful so you could enquire there.

Im on the lookout for an amazing name book but I can't seem to find one with good reviews - anyone recommend one?

daisypond · 01/05/2020 23:14

Nike is not pronounced as nik-ay.

Lark (similar to Wren, one syllable bird but one of my faves, less popular)

Robyn (has unisex nickname potential)

Margot (elegant but strong)

Henrietta (Henry / Etta Nicknames)

Never heard of Teal and normally hate these sort of names but I actually like it a lot!

Tamarisk/Tamarix NN Tam.
It's a spring flowering shrub/tree and does really well on the coast, strong winds don't bother it.
So it is beautiful but also strong and resistant to the winds of change.
Aviandha NN Avi, character from the Wheel of Time and she is one strong person.

Or Loretta, NN Lo or Lore.

There are so many fantastic suggestions on here, thank you so much. I'm going to go through and write down all the ones I like (lots of them). Certainly added tones to my list 😄

If it gets that bad and you really can't find one that speaks to you you could always search back in the family history for name.
