I rather like the name Cadence, but my DP assures me it’s... er... sort of the opposite of posh. Is it?

Cadence is sequential rhythm in music or poetry.

Are you a musician or a poet? Because if you're not, I don't know what you're on about coming up with this as a child's name.

''Opposite of posh''. Eh?

PilatesPeach · 30/04/2020 16:24

We talk about it in spin & RPM - so the rhythm of cycling - not a name I would choose.

thenightsky · 30/04/2020 16:25

Its to do with length of stride or something when running.

In running, cadence is often defined as the total number of steps you take per minute. One easy way to measure your cadence for running is to count the times your feet hit the ground in 60 seconds. Running cadence can also be defined as the number of steps one foot takes per minute

Just googled and this came up.

Very odd name.

Do you know what the word means op?

It is a bit like calling your child slope or tilt.

Redlocks28 · 30/04/2020 16:26

DD had a My little Pony called Princess Cadence-it was very pink and made strange sounds!!

IHeartKingThistle · 30/04/2020 16:27

I think it's used more in the US

Wolfiefan · 30/04/2020 16:28

Name of a character in Nashville.
I wouldn’t.

Lazydaisydaydream · 30/04/2020 16:28

One of the characters in the TV show called her baby cadence. I thought it was beautiful because she was a musician. I think they nicknamed her Cady.

Lazydaisydaydream · 30/04/2020 16:28

TV show Nashville!!

Orphlids · 30/04/2020 16:28

I know the meaning. This isn’t the question.

CompleteBarstool · 30/04/2020 16:30

I think of it as a word rather than a name.

If you like the sound of it how about Prudence? Again it's a word but also commonly known as a name

LotusClover · 30/04/2020 16:31

I really like it! It's definitely one of those names you either love or you hate, but I think it's unique, pretty, and neither pretentious nor "chavvy".

notacooldad · 30/04/2020 16:32

I know two girls called Cadence. Is is nearly 17 and the other is 12.

flamingo40 · 30/04/2020 16:32

I like it... I have a Cady and often call her Cadence even tho it's not her name. I think it's beautiful

mamansnet · 30/04/2020 16:35

If your DH thinks it's too posh, chav it up a bit and try Kaydence Grin

timetest · 30/04/2020 16:37

It doesn’t sound like a name. How about Constance?

Orphlids · 30/04/2020 16:38

@mamansnet, that’s a bit tame! How about Kaaydentz?!

Poodles03 · 30/04/2020 16:39
  1. It's pretentious.
  2. I'd just assume the parents weren't too bright.

As the person upthread said, it's like naming a child Slope or Tilt.

Sorry, but you did ask.

Orphlids · 30/04/2020 16:39

No need for alternative suggestions, folks, I’m not considering giving this name to a child. Thank you, though.

monkeytennis97 · 30/04/2020 16:39

Perfect or Plagal?(sorry muso)

Janaih · 30/04/2020 16:40

I like it, it's no more unusual than many names on here. Cady for short. I would only avoid if you have a long surname, might be too much of a mouthful.

Janaih · 30/04/2020 16:41

Tilt sounds like a great name for a cool hipster kid Grin

speakout · 30/04/2020 16:42

CompleteBarstool I agree.

I know there is a fashion to move away from "names" to " things".
So names like Summer, River etc are popular.

So we could call children anything we like- Engine, Dough, Blanket, Internet, Trolley, Manifold, Compost, Reservoir, Appendix, Filament.

All legal.

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 30/04/2020 16:43

It's the little girl's name in Shallow Hal when they're volunteering in the hospital - how I remember that I have no idea. Blush

I quite like it but I don't think it's used enough as a name (in the UK) to have any particular class connotations.

mamansnet · 30/04/2020 16:45

@Orphlids definitely on a winner with Kaaydentz!

Although you could go one further and add some silent letters and random capitals, à la KhaayDentz?
