Hello all!

I'm quite set on the name in the title but a bit stumped on how to spell...I'm taking inspiration from the beautiful west coast Scottish island as has meaning to me and the other half and it's the only name we actually agree on - but for a name Arran is not a common way to spell and I don't want my boy to go through life always having to correct people on how to spell his name!

Keen to see if there is an overall consensus on spelling!!!

Thanks in advance! Smile

I’ve got an Arun, pronounced the way you read it. He’s never had a problem in 20 years.

vitajana · 27/04/2020 13:51

Aaron 100%

HollyBen · 27/04/2020 13:53

I am Scottish and would pronounce Aaron and Arran the same. Though I have never met either in real life! I vote for Arran if the link is to the Isalnd

MrsW85 · 27/04/2020 13:55

I've got an Arron. I didnt like air-ron so used the rr instead off aa. I've got a name that can be spelt different ways and its never bothered me having to correct it.

chocolicious · 27/04/2020 13:59

Arran, but I'm Scottish so maybe biased.

cheeseycracker · 27/04/2020 14:06

Aaron to me is pronounced Arran. I'm a southerner if it matters. Aaron is the most pleasing to the eye IMO

Definitely Aaron.

GrumpyHoonMain · 27/04/2020 14:45

Arran after the Island is cute.

Whatsyourflava · 27/04/2020 14:50

Aaron as that’s the most common spelling so the spelling most people will assume. I think that will make things more straightforward for him

Mmsnet101 · 27/04/2020 14:53

I'm Scottish and have known people by Aaron and Arran. Both pronounced the same here as other posters have said. I think Aaron is more common spelling though.

CaffiSaliMali · 27/04/2020 15:00

I would pronounce Aaron as Air-on, like how it's pronounced in Church. I know an Aaron and that's how he pronounces it.

I would spell it Arran, like the island if that's the pronunciation you seek.

dementedpixie · 27/04/2020 15:05

I dont go to church and am unaware about a different pronunciation. I only know of Aaron pronounced Arran.

toughgetsgoing · 27/04/2020 15:05

none sorry please don't do it reminds me of dodgy IT technicians called Mike who are 50s - but if you must, Aaron

Mumma4262 · 27/04/2020 16:12

I’d use Aaron. Although I know an Aron.

rebeccaelle · 27/04/2020 16:13

Aaron. The others look more like place names

JKScot4 · 27/04/2020 16:14

Arran is a-ran
Aaron is air-on
Arron isn’t a name

Elouera · 27/04/2020 16:58

I too have NEVER heard Aaron pronounced Air-ron!

I'd pronounce Arran and Aaron the same- rhyming with Sharon.

DramaAlpaca · 27/04/2020 17:02

There was both an Arran and an Aaron in DS's class at school. The Aaron was pronounced the biblical way, AIR-on. I prefer Arran, for the island.

99point9FahrenheitDegrees · 27/04/2020 17:04

Arran for sure, but I'm biased because there's an Arran in the close family. It's a lovely name, and a lovely place. We did ask if a sibling would be Bute though!

daisypond · 27/04/2020 17:31

I have never heard Aaron pronounced as Arran. Is it regional? Or an accent thing? It would never occur to me that it could be pronounced that way.

Alwaysundecided · 27/04/2020 18:12

If you want to name him after the island then definitely Arran. We had Aran on our list after the Irish Aran islands, lovely having the connection.
Either way people will probably check the spelling and loads of names need to be spelled out for people (Catherine/Katherine for example) people will know how to pronounce it instantly unlike Aaron which has two pronunciations.

zscaler · 27/04/2020 19:26

I like Arran best (also Scottish and think it’s a lovely connection!)

j712adrian · 27/04/2020 19:32

Aaron.

A misspelt name stays with a child forever, and it can be very damaging.

peperethecat · 27/04/2020 19:34

Aaron
