really like it - what does everyone think? I've heard minnie can be a word for a girl's parts but Minna is less nicknamey and can still be Minnie which is so sweet, or Mimi?

I’ve not heard it before. I prefer Minnie tbh - I think it’s lovely

Northumberlandlass · 27/04/2020 12:12

I know a Mina - pronounced Meena - do you mean Minna to rhyme with Sinner?

I do like Mina (Meena) but not Minna to rhyme with sinner!

I feel like i’ve over complicated that!

toughgetsgoing · 27/04/2020 12:13

Blursula - Minnie is much more a nickname whereas Minna is a real name and something more serious to have - slightly prefer the sound of Minnie but she might prefer Minna for more formal things etc , it's less little girly and more sophisticated

Minna come and get your dinner?
I prefer Mina.

toughgetsgoing · 27/04/2020 12:14

yes like Sinner, so not mee na but min ner, like minnie. It's not too hard to spell is it? Since it's just double n like Minnie and she might even go by that half the time anyway

I like Minna a lot

TubereuseNordlys · 27/04/2020 12:21

I'm sure Minna was a character name in a book. I think it's nice Smile

P0lka · 27/04/2020 12:21

Mina sounds nice (although it doesn't look pretty written down?), minna is awful either way.

spiderlight · 27/04/2020 12:23

I've never come across Minna - it sounds Cornish though. What about Morwenna?

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 27/04/2020 12:27

Mina is short for Whilemina in Dracula, i seem to remember, but never come across Minna (pr. Minner) before - at first hearing it sounds a bit more like an occupation than a name - eg miner, farmer, etc, but i daresay it would be fine once it was actually attached to a child, just like most names.

LotusClover · 27/04/2020 12:27

Sorry but I prefer Mina or Minnie. Minna looks made up.

grincheux · 27/04/2020 12:28

Minna looks made up and sounds like 'minger' to me.

spiderlight · 27/04/2020 12:30

Or Menna, which is Welsh.

SoldiersinPetticoats · 27/04/2020 12:31

Minna, winner, chicken dinner

LarkDescending · 27/04/2020 12:34

I used to know a Minna - she would be over 70 now. I don’t mind it but think I prefer Minka which is a variant of the same name. I know a young Minka and she rocks her unusual name.

ravenmum · 27/04/2020 12:36

In German, "Minna" means "skivvy" or "maid" (as in a domestic servant). Short for Wilhelmine, as someone said above - apparently it was a common name for maids back in the day.

ItemLocationSpecialist · 27/04/2020 12:56

I know a Minna and it's a lovely name. No-one has any difficulty with it.

ravenmum · 27/04/2020 13:09

Minka is also short for Wilhelmine but tends to be used for cats in German :)

lunar1 · 27/04/2020 13:19

My great grandma was named Mini, it suited her so much. I'd probably have used it as a middle name if I'd had a girl.

SandAndSea · 27/04/2020 13:21

I knew a Mina too. It's nice.

Minna sounds kinda fishy to me. Sorry.

YahBasic · 27/04/2020 13:25

I know a little girl called Minna, her parents are Estonian.

Lumisade · 27/04/2020 13:26

Minna (pronounced meena) is used as a name in Finland. There's a famous model/orienteer called Minna Kauppi. I really like it!

rosiepony · 27/04/2020 13:28

Yes minna is a type of fish isn’t it?

I know a Monna and she’s very beautiful.

LimpidPools · 27/04/2020 13:32

When you say fish, do you mean minnow?

I rather like Minna. It has an old lady feel to it, in a good way. I mean "name from the 1940s" rather than false teeth and mint imperials!

GrimmsFairytales · 27/04/2020 13:34

yes like Sinner, so not mee na but min ner

Like the start of Minerva? (which I prefer much more)

Honest opinions I don't like it. It seems more like you're trying to find a name so you can call her Minnie.
