Primrose, Romilly or Matilda

Finding it hard to chose between my top three!

Love Romilly and Matilda but less keen on Milly and Tilly as nicknames. Are there any other shortenings?

I love Primrose. She could be Prim, Rose or Posie. What are you’re thoughts?

Primrose! Matilda is nice too, but I don’t like Romilly.

itsemily17 · 26/04/2020 11:53

Primrose! And I just love the nn Prim too.

MarieQueenofScots · 26/04/2020 11:54

Mattie or Tilda for Matilda.

All three are very sweet names but I don’t like “Prim” for Primrose, it has negative connotations. Posie is lovely

123Dancewithme · 26/04/2020 11:54

Romy and Mattie / Tilda are alternatives to Milly and Tilly.

VioletCharlotte · 26/04/2020 11:58

I love Romilly and Matilda, but not keen on Primrose. It's cute for a little one, but I just can't picture a 45 year old Primrose!

Peachbubble · 26/04/2020 12:03

Primrose, with Matilda second. Not keen on Romilly.

elfran · 26/04/2020 12:23

Romilly is my fave! It's the name of a good friend's daughter so I'm biased :) She gets a lot of positive feedback on the name choice, and her daughter gets called Romy for short.

I've never managed to warm to the "prim" of Primrose, though it has good nickname options (Posie would be my pick). Matilda is a great name too, but I'm not keen on Mattie, Tilly or Tilda.

LotusClover · 26/04/2020 12:24

Not keen on Primrose sorry, it's old fashioned and pretentious.

Matilda is quite nice. I know one who goes by Tilda.

Romilly is gorgeous. Romy/Romey is a lovely nickname too.

Whatsyourflava · 26/04/2020 12:24

Romilly i really dislike . Think it will be misheard for Ronnie (which is a very common name these days)
Other 2 names lovely especially Matilda

Tigercakes · 26/04/2020 12:37

Love Romily!

CoatTails · 26/04/2020 12:38

Love Primrose. I teach one. Know as Primmie.

daisypond · 26/04/2020 12:43

I like all. Primrose is nice. You can shorten to Prima - which is how it originated: prima rosa.

zscaler · 26/04/2020 13:25

I like Matilda best, I think it’s a really lovely name. Primrose is pretty but always has a slightly off connotation for me, because ‘prim’ isn’t a very complimentary term. I don’t love Romilly, personally.

eleventy3isthemagicnumber · 26/04/2020 13:29

Matilda's a more versatile name that Primrose. Partly because there are lots of nicknames, but it just seems to have less baggage than Primrose. I don't have any preconceived ideas about what someone called Matilda would be like. But Primrose is a bit of a frilly name and includes "prim". I can well imagine it being a bit of a burden for a girl who wasn't at all keen on frilly! But if Matilda is a frilly girl after all, she can always be Tilly if she wants.

Romilly's a strong name and more unusual. Nicknames could be Romy or Milly perhaps. I like it!

pinkpinecone · 26/04/2020 15:27

Romilly and Matilda are lovely. Not keen on primrose it's makes me think of a hand cream or scented room spray.

IndiaMay · 26/04/2020 15:54

Romily has been a fave name of mine for a good 10 years since I read a book with it in. The character spelt it with one l though.

userabcname · 26/04/2020 15:56

I like Primrose and Matilda. Don't like Romilly at all.

JollyGiraffe12 · 26/04/2020 16:12

Primrose!

Jamiladodger · 26/04/2020 16:35

I think I like them all equally!

Romilly could be Ro.
Matilda nn Tilda.
Primrose nn ...? Prim seems unfair. Prim n propa.

35andThriving · 26/04/2020 16:46

All 3 are nice. Personally prefer Matilda if I had to pick a favourite.

MikeUniformMike · 26/04/2020 16:58

Matilda.
Primrose is ok
I don't like Romilly at all.

BigusBumus · 26/04/2020 17:01

Rather than Primrose what about Tansy?

RoseHarper · 26/04/2020 18:30

Love Primrose, unusual but easy to spell and pronounce and lots of nickname potential. I think it sounds quite elegant and classic as an adult name too.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 26/04/2020 20:16

Primrose is a mouse!

Primrose, Romilly or Matilda
Slowyourboat · 26/04/2020 20:20

Love Romilly. Wish I’d been brave enough to use it!
