Any thoughts on these names? Ideally I'd love to hear why you like or dislike them. Also, if there are 5 in your child's nursery approximately where in the country (or elsewhere) that is. Thank you!

@fifegirl75 yes, I think it's creeping up. Well done for getting in there early!

I like Sophie.

Cora reminds me of Downton, but it's not horrid.

Sorry, but I hate Laura, I've known several and they've all been knobs so unfortunately has put me off the name 🙈

MikeUniformMike · 13/04/2020 13:01

In order of preference:
Sophie, then Laura. Not keen on Cora.

Kokeshi123 · 13/04/2020 13:33

Love Cora. Laura is also a beautiful classic name and she'll probably be the only Laura in her class as it is not common at the moment. Sophie is inoffensive but awfully bland.

Blursula · 13/04/2020 13:53

I like Sophie the most out of your choices. I think it’s timeless and beautiful. Cora is lovely too. Laura I’m not keen on - I think it’s a little bit plain but that’s probably because i went to school with so many Lauras and so I associate it more with my generation!

sel2223 · 13/04/2020 13:56

I like all your names OP,

Sophie and Laura are classic and timeless but not totally overused.
Cora is lovely and making a big comeback but I doubt it'll ever be top 10.

marshallrubblechaserockyzoomer · 13/04/2020 17:04

Sophie is boring and common
Laura same as above but even worse
Cora stripper

Positevibes · 13/04/2020 17:16

Cora is lovely

Ellmau · 13/04/2020 17:58

Laura and Sophie are both lovely classic names.

Cora makes me think of apple cores and corers - sorry. Corinne or Corinna maybe?

I like all three names a lot!

  • Laura would be most unexpected, as it was popular with the "mum generation " and as a result isn't so popular currently.
  • Cora is fairly unusual, I don't know of any (and have little ones in nursery/school).
  • Sophie is consistently quite popular, across generations, it travels quite well internationally.
BabyB19 · 13/04/2020 18:21

Sophie is a beautiful name but very popular, Laura is for a woman not a baby and Cora is lovely and would be my pick of the three ❤️

123Dancewithme · 13/04/2020 19:00

Laura would be quite unusual on a baby nowadays.

Easilyanxious · 13/04/2020 19:03

I like Laura as you don't hear it so much now and I think it suits all ages

CaffiSaliMali · 13/04/2020 21:22

I know of a toddler Cora, East Midlands.
There is a Sophie in my family, she's 5.
Don't know any Laura's younger than late 20s.

Laura and Sophie were very popular in the late 80s and early 90s, lots of them in my year at school and in years below and above. Both classic names, Sophie is more popular, and add in Sophia/Sofia it's even more so.

I think if you went with Laura she'd be the only one in her class.

I don't like Cora, just not a fan of Cara, Carla type names and Cora feels along those lines. It also makes me think of Coronavirus now a PP has mentioned it! I know a baby Cordelia which is lovely.

hellosunshine5 · 13/04/2020 21:37

I don’t really like any of them, sorry OP Sad

Sophie is my favourite of the 3 as I like ‘Soph’ as a nickname. It does seem a bit old school for a newborn now though - I went to school with lots of them (I’m 25) so it must have been popular in the 90’s.

Laura is again very old school in my opinion! Went to school with lots of them and never liked the ‘Laur’ nickname commonly used.

Cora just reminds me of the old woman on Eastenders! Really don’t like it for a little girl...

loopy42 · 13/04/2020 21:47

My sister is called Cora...she's early twenties now and I know of no other adult cora's.

There are a few toddlers called cora in my local area..we are in the East Midlands

Darkbendis · 13/04/2020 22:21

I love the name Cora, but I wouldn't have chosen it as it is the name of a chain of supermarkets in France and a few other countries. But the name itself is beautiful, it reminds me of Cora Munro of "The Last of the Mohicans"

Laura is nice, Sophie is nice too but I know quite a few of Sophie or Sophia in my DC's school
