Husband loves it, I’m just trying to get a feel for it.

I know it’s a Scottish name. But it’s become so Australian now it doesn’t really feel Scottish any longer- to me, at least. It’s a nice name, though.

Detectoristnotmetaldetector · 03/04/2020 17:31

Lovely name. The only person I can think of called this is the guy in the wiggles.

midnightstar66 · 03/04/2020 17:43

I know 3 , actually only one is Lachlan and the other 2 are laughlan. All lovely boys of around 10. It's not a particularly unusual name here in Scotland so just think of the nice lads I know.

Tillygetsit · 03/04/2020 23:20

The lead character in Upright. We've just binge watched it and I'm a bit obsessed. Fab series.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/04/2020 23:22

I love it but agree not unless you are Scottish and can pronounce the ch.

Essexgirlupnorth · 03/04/2020 23:36

A naughty child at an Australian wildlife park who was going to get eaten by a bird of prey

Elieza · 03/04/2020 23:37

Lachy. My neighbour. Nice big dude.

Leflic · 04/04/2020 01:40

A slightly spoilt, feral Australian kid.

PenelopeFlintstone · 04/04/2020 01:45

Scottish names like Lachlan, Angus and Hamish - all popular in Australia, probably from Scottish immigrants. There are lots of Scottish place names here too, naturally. Before I came here, I hadn’t ever met one of those in England but loads here.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 04/04/2020 02:05

Craig Mc(Lachlan) from Neighbours / "Heeeey Mona"

I like it though... Was on our list, but dropped as we didn't think anyone would pronounce it properly where we are.

Time40 · 04/04/2020 02:13

It makes me think of the Scottish aristocracy, because that's the only person I know of who has that name.

CoffeeandPainting · 04/04/2020 02:17

Irish

VenusClapTrap · 04/04/2020 07:46

It’s a bit soap opera isn’t it?

Prepenultimate · 04/04/2020 08:17

Phlegm. Plus I hear it in an Australian accent but am not sure why.

ThinkPink71 · 04/04/2020 09:05

Emmerdale x

Quizeerascal · 04/04/2020 21:03

Strong Scottish name, although I'm never sure if I'm pronouncing it right, Lock-lan or Lack-lan

123Dancewithme · 06/04/2020 00:03

Lachy from The Wiggles.

Toadz · 06/04/2020 00:05

It makes me think of Rupert Murdoch unfortunately as I think it’s the name of one of his sons.

AllRainbowsAndUnicorns · 06/04/2020 06:40

Do pronounce it Lock-lan in the SE of England because that is correct for a person from your region.

We all know Paris is correctly pronounced Paree, but you'd sound like a right idiot calling it that if you're British.

user47000000000 · 06/04/2020 16:01

Neighbours

BessMarvin · 06/04/2020 16:38

Was there a Lachlan in neighbours or is it Craig McLachlan everyone who said neighbours is thinking of?

I would say home and away

Ledehe · 07/04/2020 23:42

@AllRainbowsAndUnicorns the correct "British" pronunciation for Lachlan IS the original pronunciation, Scotland is in Britain.

The name Paris is an ancient Greek name. The pronunciation is correct. The city of Paris' name comes from a different word.

OntheWaves40 · 07/04/2020 23:44

Fake poncy middle class pretending to have Scottish roots name, sorry!

SnowsInWater · 07/04/2020 23:50

Very popular here in Australia - teenage DD has at least three friends called Lachlan. I think it's lovely (and it's probably less common where you are).

Megan2018 · 07/04/2020 23:53

I don't mind it but Angus is better!
