Husband loves it, I’m just trying to get a feel for it.

Love it! But I'm Scottish. And it should definitely be Lach-lan not Lock-lan. I think if you live somewhere where it won't be pronounced that way then I wouldn't bother.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 03/04/2020 14:03

I wouldn’t use it if I couldn’t pronounce it properly.
Lauch-lan not Lock-lan.

Ledehe · 03/04/2020 14:12

As long as you pronounce it properly, Lachlan not Locklin. It's not pronounced like Loch or Lock.

I've got a long line of Lachlan's in my family and think its hideous that people have butchered this name to start with Lo never mind the hideous ch pronunciation

florascotia2 · 03/04/2020 14:14

Scottish gaelic pronouciation here. NB the stress on the first syllable - and, as others have said, the 'ch':

Lachlan Murdoch. Sorry.

Flymetothestars · 03/04/2020 14:19

Nice name

inflam · 03/04/2020 14:34

Would have to pronounce with a hard ‘ck’ sound as would make it impossible for everyone else otherwise and possibly seem a bit pretentious if we kept correcting people!

Yeah don't use a name and pronounce it incorrectly to appease others. I think you either use the name properly or not at all.

TheoneandObi · 03/04/2020 14:36

A strapping great Aussie name

Bienentrinkwasser · 03/04/2020 15:01

And this is why I think we’ll go for Angus...

OP posts:
Stet · 03/04/2020 15:03

Angus is nice. Fergus? Fraser? Hamish? Calum?

Mulanlin · 03/04/2020 15:05

The nutter on emmerdale

emmathedilemma · 03/04/2020 16:25

It's not one i'd choose myself but it doesn't shock me and it's quite common in scotland.

sofato5miles · 03/04/2020 16:26

Australian or Scottish

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2020 16:28

I know it's Scottish but I always associate it with Australians.

I like Angus better.

thriftyhen · 03/04/2020 16:37

Boy in my son's year had this name. His mother was Australian, so assumed it was more usual there. He was generally called "Lockland", so you might need to be prepared for unusual pronunciations of the name!

daisypond · 03/04/2020 16:38

Australian now, more than Scottish.

EasyTarget · 03/04/2020 16:40

I love it. It's a lovely word to say.
I think of Scotland.

CoronaIsComing · 03/04/2020 16:43

The character in Home and Away over 20 years ago!

OneHanded · 03/04/2020 16:46

My sisters nephew with a wee Glaswegian accent - he’s adorable and then some

woollylizard · 03/04/2020 16:49

Very very popular in Australia. I like it.

Bringmewineandcake · 03/04/2020 16:50

I love it

shelsley · 03/04/2020 16:50

Love it. I know two, both known as Lockie.

TARSCOUT · 03/04/2020 16:51

A wee boy wi dirty knees playing with his collie pup outside a Croft in the highlands. It is a raw scottish name for a strapping lad. A bitty twee if you aren't pronouncing properly however if that's the name you like go for it.(just call him something different when visiting home)!!

Saffzy · 03/04/2020 16:51

Character from neighbours

inflam · 03/04/2020 17:12

Australian now, more than Scottish.

What do you mean? It's a Scottish name. That doesn't change Confused
