Poppy Isabella or Sofia Isabella?

NooNooHead · 01/04/2020 23:48

I have almost chosen a name for DC3 who is due in 6 weeks when I have my elective c-section on 11th May.

I really like Poppy Isabella but now I want to possibly think of something different - I thought that Sofia Isabella or possibly Sophia Isabella are good alternatives.

I know that my DD and DH are both keen on Poppy as a first choice.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.Smile

I prefer Poppy.

Sophia is too popular atm.

Poppy Isabella

ArriettyJones · 02/04/2020 04:29

Poppy

Jossina · 02/04/2020 04:41

Sofia definitely. If you love Poppy so much use it as what it is, a nickname.

CoffeeRunner · 02/04/2020 04:43

I love Poppy, and there seem to be more baby Sofia/Sophia’s about at the moment.

Not keen on Isabella though, that really is everywhere & anywhere.

Poppy Sophia?

Poppy

HathorX · 02/04/2020 04:45

Not Poppy, it’s fine now when she is as cute as a Troll but will it suit her in decades to come? Personally I couldn’t take an adult called Poppy seriously.

FazakAli · 02/04/2020 05:01

Neither tbh as they're both very popular here but out of the two, I'd choose Sophia. In my dd's year there are 6 Poppy's and in my ds's year there are 8 by that name.

If you're fixed on Isabella as a middle name, then you're right to choose a shorter first name.

Violet Isabella
Carmen Isabella
Holly Isabella
Iris Isabella
Lucy Isabella

IdblowJonSnow · 02/04/2020 05:35

Neither. And Isabella is a bit long for a middle name unless paired with a shorter first name, or vice versa.

MsTSwift · 02/04/2020 05:52

Personally cannot bear cutesy toddler names- she will grow up into an adult woman. Poppy Daisy Honey etc sound ridiculous on anyone over the age of 8.

Sofia Sophie namss are ok but abit wallpaper and overused. I would go back to the drawing board.

ArtisanPopcorn · 02/04/2020 07:18

All very popular and blah to me.

peachypetite · 02/04/2020 07:20

Isabella Poppy is nicer than the other way round.
Sophia Isabella doesn’t work in my opinion.

PurpleSprain · 02/04/2020 07:32

I prefer Poppy. It's a lovely name.

DennisTMenace · 02/04/2020 08:04

People on mumsnet don't like popular names. I say if it is popular and you like it who cares? You can never tell what will be popular next year. If you pick an unusual name and then a celebrity or royal uses it, it will probably be in the top 10 the next year.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 02/04/2020 08:09

I think Poppy is a lovely cute baby name but I would like something stronger than that when trying to lead a business or trying to convince people to follow instructions at work.

My sister has a cute nickname as Poppy that she grew up with and all her family knows her as and her childhood friends. For everyone else she is her strong sounding German name, which works better considering she is a judge for criminal cases.

Paddington68 · 02/04/2020 08:11

Just call her Isabella.

SallyWD · 02/04/2020 08:12

Poppy

Babyg1995 · 02/04/2020 08:24

Love poppy and Isabella but I wouldn't put them together .

Neither, would opt for Isabella

Whatsyourflava · 02/04/2020 08:43

I really love the name Poppy and would stick with that

Whatsyourflava · 02/04/2020 08:43

Alternatively Polly? Or Holly?

MyTwoPence · 02/04/2020 08:45

Sophia.

Sophia is a gorgeous name (for both children and adults).
Poppy is a child's nickname, not an adult to be taken seriously.

Astronica · 02/04/2020 08:46

I like both but would rather be called Sophia/Sofia. Sophia Isabella can take you anywhere but Poppy, sweet at it is, will only suit some people.

NooNooHead · 02/04/2020 09:00

Thank you all. I do like the name Poppy but I feel my gut is telling me that it isn't an adult name that people would take that seriously. I had a grandma called Daisy and the other was called Ella,(Isabella) and I have to say that I always preferred Isabella.

I think Isabella is a much more versatile name too.

I do like the combination of Sophia Isabella.

I may ask my DH what he prefers and see whether he still likes Poppy...
