Posh drip.

Chickydoo · 31/03/2020 18:16

Wet, not a very strong name.

maa1992 · 31/03/2020 18:21

I'm not keen

goldenorbspider · 31/03/2020 18:22

It's a lovely name and one they can grow into

NuffSaidSam · 31/03/2020 18:24

I think 2018 are the most recent stats?

There were 597 boys called Rupert in 2018.

It was the 107th most popular name.

It's on a steep rise in popularity.

sibbys · 31/03/2020 18:28

I like it!

SallyWD · 31/03/2020 20:55

It's a real posh boy name.

saturdaynightathome · 31/03/2020 22:24

He's definitely a bear

LemonSock · 31/03/2020 22:26

The only one I’ve known was actually a posh drip who had a half-blue in croquet. His girlfriend couldn’t pronounce her rs and called him Wupes.

Everyone will know his name... and probably join in all of his games.

It’s a yes from me.

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 01/04/2020 08:41

Love it, my first serious boyfriend was called Rupert and he was sex on legs (black haired, green eyed Irishman...happy sigh) so I’ve always had a soft spot for it.

usernameusernames · 01/04/2020 08:59

@nuffsaidsam fab, thank you! Would you mind posting the link to them please?

I absolutely love the name Rupert @usernameusernames

Are you ok with it being number 107 in the charts? Are you wanting something more popular than that or less popular?
And yes 2018 is the most recent official statistics we have
I’ve not met anyone called Rupert yet but it wouldn’t surprise me at all to meet a little Rupert

usernameusernames · 01/04/2020 09:05

@Onlythelangofthetitberg haha! That's brilliant, that's made my day!

I don't think hubs and I will make a small boy, we think he will be tall and broad if he's like his Dad. So I don't think Rupert would sound wet based upon our image of him as a boy and then as he grows up. But if he is a drip like his Dad, then it may just be fitting Grin

I agree, Rupert is a strong name for a handsome boy

Whatsyourflava · 01/04/2020 09:10

Yes what kind of popularity rating were you hoping for @usernameusernames is 107 too low or too high for you ideally?

usernameusernames · 01/04/2020 09:13

@PlantPotting I don't mind 107, as long as it's not one that's set to boom in the next year or two. I would like it if he's the only one in his class, for example.

I personally would rather something a little less popular but this is the only name that my husband has said he likes without any prompting from me and I really appreciate his input. We don't tend to agree on many names as I think we both have different styles. He thinks more of what others will think of a name, rather than if we like it. I'm surprised actually that one he suggested was outside of the top 100, even if only slightly.

I don't really like the classic old man names style, and even though Rupert is a name I'm sure many old men have, don't think Rupert necessarily has that feel about it.

I've not met a Rupert either, which is refreshing but I was interested in the general consensus too.

I can't stand it. It could possibly be my most hated boys name. I don't even know why! But am definitely getting a posh drip vibe, was it the name of a tv/film character?

Crystal87 · 01/04/2020 09:17

To me it sounds like one of those pretentious very middle class names, along with the likes of Hugo and Tarquin.

usernameusernames · 01/04/2020 09:29

Also just to note, we don't live in a posh area at all.

We do both have quite important jobs but we definitely aren't posh haha!

We would like something a little different from the Jackson, Harry, George, Oliver, Freddie and Alfie's in his class (all beautiful names, however just not our taste).

PrincessHoneysuckle · 01/04/2020 09:30

God no,sorry.

Hopethiswilldo · 01/04/2020 09:31

Definitely posh drip

Iwalkinmyclothing · 01/04/2020 09:32

I think:

Rupert Bear
Rupert Murdoch
A Rupert (in the posh thick British Army Officer sense)

Saladfingers95 · 01/04/2020 09:32

Love love love the name Rupert! Go for it!
