Opinions; Partner thinks it's pretentious. I just like Greek names and love the stories surrounding him.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Eeeeeby · 29/02/2020 22:06

Yeah, pretentious. Are you Greek?

DramaAlpaca · 29/02/2020 22:08

I agree with your partner.

NotNowPlzz · 29/02/2020 22:09

It's okay. I knew a little Apollo also not Greek no one batted an eyelid. I'd give him a run of the mill middle name though

BobbyBlueCat · 29/02/2020 22:11

Let your husband pick the name....

TinnedPearsForPudding · 29/02/2020 22:12

Tendon would be a great nickname

Neptunesgiraffe · 29/02/2020 22:15

I like the Greek pronunciation but not the English way of saying it.

embolass · 29/02/2020 22:15

Eh.....no

LouLouLoo · 29/02/2020 22:17

I’m with your partner. I hear Achilles and my association is tendon before Greece.

twinkledag · 29/02/2020 22:19

No

CatteStreet · 29/02/2020 22:24

Nope. It's too associated with heels and tendons. And IIRC he wasn't a particularly nice guy in the myths.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/02/2020 22:24

Isn't your achilles heel your weak spot? So not great assoc

user1493494961 · 29/02/2020 22:24

Team partner.

mrwalkensir · 29/02/2020 22:25

Achey for short...

Gingerkittykat · 29/02/2020 22:27

I would get him a tiny pair of heelys as a newborn gift.

IKEA888 · 29/02/2020 22:28
Smile
Puffykins · 29/02/2020 22:29

I think it's a great name. But I think it also comes with serious connotations - not least being a very stubborn and vengeful if brilliant warrior who chose a short, heroic life over long term happiness and his name being forgotten. It might be quite a lot to saddle a child with....

MrsBungle · 29/02/2020 22:30

I agree with your partner too.

attatiti · 29/02/2020 22:30

The connotations are not good, I wouldn’t want to go through life saddled with that.

SushiForBreakfast · 29/02/2020 22:31

You po-faced lot...

OP I love it!

PixieDustt · 29/02/2020 22:31

I know someone of that name he is Greek but it does remind me of the heel. Sorry OP.

MarthasGinYard · 29/02/2020 22:31

Had Complete rupture of

Wasn't pleasant Sad

BeroccaFiend · 29/02/2020 22:36

I would be imagining, as I always do, how you could best in fact dip a baby more fully into the Styx, so that he didn’t have a vulnerable heel. (Change legs, waggle him around a bit?)

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 29/02/2020 22:36

Why? In Greek it’s pronounced Ahileah (short e - not as in Leah)

No Greek I know would give their child the name unless they had to.

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 29/02/2020 22:45

So many better names associated with Greek mythology

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 29/02/2020 22:46

I love it as a name, but it’s ill-starred. Also frankly a bit pretentious.
