I really like Barnaby. Wilfred is also nice - I see it mentioned on these boards a lot but don't know one irl. I do like Benedict too. Octavius is quite a name - I've not met one of those either! How about: Ernest, Isambard, Xavier?

FriedasCarLoad · 22/02/2020 08:37

They’re all nice.

I think my favourites are Benedict, Caspian and Crispin and my least favourites are Digby and Octavius.

The latter sounds a bit self-consciously middle class and I can't think of an abbreviation that would ever let him fit into a working class community. Might not bother you, but I like the idea of names that work anywhere.

Whatsyourflava · 22/02/2020 10:33

Barnaby 🥰
Wilfred 🥰
Or
Benedict

TatianaLarina · 22/02/2020 10:53

I like Caspian the best.

Octavius is very Jacob Rees Mogg.

newtothis20 · 22/02/2020 10:54

I like Wilfred - lots of nn options too if he chooses eg Fred, Freddie (or Wilf which I don’t like as much but he might!)

Wintersun13 · 22/02/2020 10:55

Don't know why Barnaby suddenly seems so popular on these boards. Always sounded very old-fashioned and a bit too proper to me.

Personally I love Octavius and Caspian. Caspar is nice too in a similar vein. Or Octavian. And Cassius, though that one might be too out there !

DramaAlpaca · 22/02/2020 13:17

I like Benedict.

Omashu · 22/02/2020 13:42

Caspian! I wanted it on the list for a boy but I had a girl anyway. I love it though!

I like unusual names but I’m not overly keen on the rest of your list. However I love Aurelius which you might like also.

Maduixa · 22/02/2020 14:41

Like Wilfred and Benedict. Don't mind the others, except Digby reminds me strongly of the place name.

Possibilities:
Cillian/Kilian
Cyrus
Edgar
Gregory
Lucian
Quentin
Raymond
Severin
Tobias

MikeUniformMike · 22/02/2020 14:44

Octavius - prefer Octavian, the one I know says it as Oc-TAV-yan not Oc-TAYV-yan
Barnaby - lovely
Crispin - fine
Digby - not sure
Wilfred - ok but make's me think of Harold Steptoe's father
Caspian - fine
Benedict - Bendy dick

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/02/2020 14:47

Caspian the best followed by Crispin

Flymetothestars · 22/02/2020 15:00

Definitely Barnaby
2nd choice Wilfred

Some of the others sound a bit parody posh person to me (like a ‘Tory boy’ comedy sketch or something)

There’s a Digby on Made in Chelsea and his own girlfriend and mates were teasing him on the programme saying it’s a weak dogs name x

Lavenderblues · 22/02/2020 15:27

I like Caspian and Benedict best.

We have a Quentin which you may like? We also liked Caspar and Raphael.

oldmahubbard · 22/02/2020 18:22

Thanks for all the suggestions, few really good suggestions.

Our favs are probably Wilfred and Digby so far.

Benedict and Wilfred are my favourites. How about Seymour?

Krazynights34 · 22/02/2020 18:40

Barnaby and Digby are my favourites!

Other suggestions
Rufus
Clarence
Percy
Jeremiah
Tobias/Toby
Edgar
Edmund
Hector

MrsB2019x · 22/02/2020 18:47

I like Wilfred best out of your list with Wilf as a NN

My cousin had a dog called Digby so that name only reminds me of a dog...

SquigglePigs · 22/02/2020 18:49

Barnaby and Caspian are my favourites from your list.

ikeakia · 22/02/2020 18:49

I was at school with a boy named Diggory, that’s all I think of when I see Digby. Love Caspian and Octavian.

Singingatmidnight · 22/02/2020 19:03

I prefer Bennet as a mediaeval English variant of Benedict.

99bb · 23/02/2020 05:59

Best ones:
Benedict is one of my absolute favourites
Wilfred was my “don’t know if I’m brave enough to use it but I love it”
Barnaby absolutely love it, but I wavered on Barney

Ritascornershop · 23/02/2020 06:23

Love Wilfred, and Benedict is okay (though I prefer Benjamin). What about Josiah? Can be shortened to Joe if he felt like a change. I quite like Linus and Leon, but not sure how they sound to middle class UK ears?

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 23/02/2020 06:30

They all sound very foppish and wet. Not my taste at all. Well, we're all different I I guess!

IckleBear · 23/02/2020 15:51

I like Caspian.

Pilot12 · 23/02/2020 16:05

Wilfred
