Think for eg Tommy Tomlinson?
I have a name name I have always loved but first half is the same as our surname, is this weird or not?

No dont. I have known people with these sort of names , awful

Needtobepositive · 12/02/2020 16:07

Probably not but does depend on the name really. If I’m doubt don’t do it.

Whatsyourflava · 12/02/2020 16:25

Could you tell us the name?

ShirleyPhallus · 12/02/2020 16:26

So weird

WestCountryLady · 12/02/2020 16:29

The name I like is Thomas/Tom/Tommy and the surname is very similar to the example I used.

So Thomas Thompson? No please don’t, it looks unimaginative at best.

Nowayorhighway · 12/02/2020 16:32

I know someone who has two DD’s called Millie and Mollie Miller. That’s fucking weird imo.

FreezerBird · 12/02/2020 16:37

No-one would turn a hair in the bit of Wales I live in - I know more than one Evan Evans.

But it's not for everyone!

turnedabout · 12/02/2020 16:40

I knew a Kelly who got married to a Mr Kelly...

MediocreOmens · 12/02/2020 16:42

@turnedabout was that the couple on Don’t Tell the Bride with the cruise? I always wondered if she really did change her name to Kelly Kelly.

bluemoon2468 · 12/02/2020 16:54

Please don't call your son Tom Thompson. There are a number of names I love that would sound stupid with our surname and so they have just had to be abandoned immediately. It's sad but just a reality of naming.

WestCountryLady · 12/02/2020 17:05

I think I knew it wasn't going to work but had to hear it, thank you.
I have crossed that one off the list.

Wouldn’t bother me.

I knew a Will Wilson and other than a few comments when people first met him nobody cared, he certainly didn’t get teased or anything. Thomas is a great name.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/02/2020 17:29

Yeah I would. Obviously you couldn't have Thomas thomas, but
Thomas Thompson is fab. Isn't there a,news reader or reporter called Nicholas Nicklby. It doesn't seem to have done him any harm.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/02/2020 17:32

Oh Millie Miller is so sweet. Grin

TenThousandSpoons · 12/02/2020 17:35

Magnus Magnuson
Harry Harrison
I don’t mind these.
Tom Thompson is bound to get nicknamed Tom-Tom or say nav though

TenThousandSpoons · 12/02/2020 17:36

*sat nav

Isitme55 · 12/02/2020 17:37

Yeah it's weird. Don't do it lol

FreezerBird · 12/02/2020 18:10

I knew a Kelly who got married to a Mr Kelly...

I once met a Gill (soft g) Gill (hard g).

MikeUniformMike · 12/02/2020 18:12

I'm Welsh too and it's common in Wales.

John Jones, William Williams, Evan Evans, Harry Parry, David Davies are quite common names.

Quite often you would see names like Thomas John Jones, known as Thomas, or John William Jones, known as William.

swansloveiceskating · 12/02/2020 18:32

I always find these names comical for some reason. David Davis is the first one that springs to mind first.

Khione · 12/02/2020 18:40

I was at school with a John Johnson, no-one bothered at all.

MikeUniformMike · 12/02/2020 18:49

There were several John Joneses at school with me.
Someone I know is called Steve Stevens.

Gill Gill is funny.

NoSauce · 12/02/2020 20:01

If you love Thomas then you should go for it!

paintfairy · 12/02/2020 21:22

I went to school with a Richard Richardson. I to this day question why his parents were so ridiculous. Yet it was over 20 years ago. So it's memorable, if nothing else?
