Is this name too short for our surname?

We really like Skye for a girl but don't know if it's too short with our surname (Fox). What do people think? I'm not keen on the longer Skylar.

Megan Fox?! @Awwlookatmybabyspider Grin

How about:
Alba
Penny
Lola

I don’t normally like overly alliterative names, but Flora Fox is awesome.

Chocmallows · 12/02/2020 23:01

Laila Fox is a pretty name and unusual.

HalfBloodPrincess · 12/02/2020 23:28

Penelope
Delilah
Millicent
Ishbel

A pity about Skye and Iona, both such lovely names. Margot works well.

Jemima
Ishbel
Tabitha
Isabeau
Tamsin
Anthea
Cressida

I like it including the surname. Hate skylar though.

octoberfarm · 13/02/2020 02:05

I think there might be an actress with the name, but love Emilia Fox, and Tabitha Fox as well!

Singingatmidnight · 13/02/2020 07:02

I met an Ilona once, which I thought was a nice alternative to Iona.

Justonemoremojito · 13/02/2020 07:24

Ruby Fox does sound like a porn star Grin and I have a Ruby!!
Emilia, Amelie, Emily, Elizabeth all sound nice

spiderlight · 13/02/2020 08:27

Anything alliterative risks sounding like a character from Peppa Pig.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/02/2020 08:38

Why is she a real person @OhSoOutingGrin

SW16 · 13/02/2020 08:38

Anything alliterative risks sounding like a character from Peppa Pig

Or a double act with Basil Brush.

Fiona Fox and Basil Brush...

IVflytrap · 13/02/2020 08:56

Sasha
Tamsin
Esther
Mirren
Lyra
Sadie
Imogen
Meredith
Saskia
Ellen

This is a lot harder than I initially thought. I had to rule out Juno and Cora from my list (as in "D'you know Fox?" and "Cor, a fox!") Grin

Kentishfox · 13/02/2020 11:42

@IVflytrap Haha, "Cor, a fox " is hilarious! I could be so cruel. Imogen is another of my favourites that DH doesn't like!

We don't actually know the sex but boys names seem much easier to match with the surname...Thomas, Alexander, Henry, Louis are our top choices. We like Ethan too but too many F sounds maybe?

Omashu · 13/02/2020 15:57

I think Jasmine Fox sounds nice. Also love Leila but slept like that rather than Laila.

Omashu · 13/02/2020 15:58

Argh I meant spelt not slept. Can’t bloody spell today!

Pippinsqueak · 13/02/2020 16:03

What about Autumn Fox?

MikeUniformMike · 13/02/2020 16:09

There was a thread on Silver as a girl's name recently.

SageRosemary · 13/02/2020 16:33

Fiona is what I was thinking too, @LarkDescending

or Freya

SageRosemary · 13/02/2020 16:35

LOL, you CANNOT call a child Silver Fox @MikeUniformMike, that is how my DH describes himself.

MikeUniformMike · 14/02/2020 17:22

Surname and occupation names are trendy. Cooper, Parker etc.

Hunter is nice and could be unisex.

MikeUniformMike · 14/02/2020 17:29

I've suggested Red as a first name on another thread.

BohoBunney · 14/02/2020 17:46

We've got an animal based surname...hence my username. So many names I like for future dcs just don't go as they sound like stripper names or something from Beatrix Potter.

MikeUniformMike · 14/02/2020 17:48

Peter and Benjamin don't sound like stripper names to me but Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail might.

Apileofballyhoo · 14/02/2020 18:27

I think three syllable names sound best (or longer), or long two syllable ones.
Naomi, Jemima, India, Susannah, Harriet, Natasha, Sarah, Sarah-Jane, Dearbhla/Dervla, Rosemary, Miriam, Catherine, Enid, Emily.

You could have alliteration with Phillipa Fox or Fionnuala Fox.
