I put a thread on AIBU about this because I'd had so many threads re names on here that I thought you'd be heartily sick of me.
We had chosen (with lots of help from you) a name for our ds who arrives in April.
We recently found out that ds has DS and dh didnt want to use the name we'd picked because he felt it was wrong for this baby. I was furious about this but one of the posters on AIBU said that children with DS often have problems pronouncing words with 2 consonants together. The name is Bram.
So we've moved the goalposts again and are trying to think of an easy to say/spell name preferably biblical cos my other 3 dc have biblical names ( not religious just like them)
Dh likes Seth (I'm not keen) I'm going round in circles. I know logically the biblical thing doesnt matter but I dont want this little one to be the odd one out.
Family members called Samuel, Isaac, Joshua, Peter, Noah, Benjamin and Matthew. I liked Adam but a "helpful" friend said not good because of A dumb. I cried about that. Really looking forward to baby and will adore him obvs. Any ideas?

Read this book - I found it phenomenal, and it might help you to reframe Adam after that awful comment: Expecting Adam

similarminimer · 27/01/2020 14:38

Why would Bram be harder than Adam? Bram sounds more like Bam than Brrrrrram when most southern people say it anyway - I guess depends on where you are. Go for it.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 27/01/2020 14:44

Kit short for Christopher

wendywoopywoo222 · 27/01/2020 14:54

Seth is a biblical name. One of Adam and Eves sons if my memory serves me correctly.

Chocmallows · 27/01/2020 15:01

Peter's a great name too.
What does your DH think of that name?

saraclara · 27/01/2020 15:10

The Br blend is hard for children to say @similarminimer
If OP's child has any speech problem at all (which is very likely, sadly) then this sound will be extremely difficult for him.

Best not to have any consonant blends in his name, really.

LoonyLunaLoo · 27/01/2020 15:11

All the boys with Downs Syndrome I’ve worked with would make gorgeous Seths but it would be difficult for them to pronounce as ‘th’ is hard!

I’m not very well up on bible names but Benjamin (Ben) springs to mind if there’s any on the bible?

bluemoon2468 · 27/01/2020 15:18

I work with children with DS and know a lot about speech development - if you're aiming for a name your child will be able to pronounce, you want to avoid consonant clusters, as well as the trickier sounds in English e.g. r, l, y, th, sh, ch, j, k, g, ng. You may also want to choose a one syllable name, or a name that has a one syllable nickname. Ben, Tom and Toby would work well. I'll post if I think of any others.

bluemoon2468 · 27/01/2020 15:23

Also Sam, Bo/Beau, Finn, Matt, Dan, Tim, Hugh, Ed, Todd, Ted, Seb - all very easy to say.

bluejayblue · 27/01/2020 16:21

Whatever name you choose also have Bram as a second name so he still will have your preferred name. Congratulations on your expected son, I have a cousin with Downs, she is the most loving person I know.

missmouse101 · 27/01/2020 16:29

My brother is Adam. Great name. Absolutely no one has ever said a dumb. FFs, your friend is utterly deluded.

Flissmoon · 27/01/2020 18:37

Asa? Good luck!

FernBritanica · 27/01/2020 18:45

Peter is lovely. I also like Jacob and Jonathan.

Tillygetsit · 27/01/2020 19:08

Thank you so much everyone. We've had a good chat about everything and looked through all these excellent suggestions and want to especially thank Flissmoon because Asa is perfect. Asa Bram. Easy to say and spell.

So glad you've found something you're happy with, OP. Asa Bram is lovely!

Irrespective of the name choice, I also wanted to recommend the book Expecting Adam mentioned above. The Adam of that story is very wonderful and I'm sure your dear boy will be too.

(Sorry, to clarify, the link is to a beautiful Instagram post about the grown-up Adam if the book.)

ikeakia · 27/01/2020 19:56

What a gorgeous name. ☺️

mathanxiety · 27/01/2020 20:07

Wonderful name! Wishing you all the best.

Whatsyourflava · 27/01/2020 20:12

Asa is lovely @Tillygetsit well done @Flissmoon !!!

Chocmallows · 27/01/2020 20:12

Sounds lovely OP, good luck with it all. One of my best friend's brother's has DS (I was friends with her from a few years before he was born).

He's in his 30s and very happy. There is no normal really, all the lives we experience are our normal. We just accepted him the way he was when he was born as children don't necessarily see differences unless they're pointed out.

bluemoon2468 · 27/01/2020 20:31

Beautiful name 😊

Flissmoon · 27/01/2020 21:01
