Pretty girls names like Emily

The name Emily is such a pretty name for a girl and I tend to find most people feel the same. The problem is, I want it for my dd but can’t and no other names are matching up to me.

So, what girls names do you think of as pretty?

Why can't you use Emily, though.

Why can't you just use Emily? Have I missed something

Scarylady · 22/01/2020 20:16

Can’t use Emily as it’s my DH’s sisters name. I know some people will say that shouldn’t matter but it does matter to me.

Annoyingly, the three names I’ve always liked are Emily, Liam and Jack and all three names are now ruled out due to my DH’s immediate family.

Thanks for the suggestions, there are some I like but none seem like the one to me.

Amelie is close but not the same?

My cousin is Beth and so is my DD but no-one batted an eyelid.

Anna

Unless you are not a big fan of the sister then I think it would be a lovely compliment to name your dd after her.

What about Jessica?

I think your daughter is lucky she won’t be named it. I think it is a dreadfully weak and insipid name. Emily Bishop suited the name perfectly!

What about Amelia or Millie? Emma or Lauren? They are in the same vein?

OnlyToWin · 22/01/2020 21:00

Emily Wilding Davison could hardly be described as insipid!!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/01/2020 21:06

Laura. Louisa.

Scarylady · 22/01/2020 21:11

I really like Amelia but have a family member called that as well. I know I can’t rule out every name based on people I know but just don’t like using the names of people we are close to.

I have an Emily and was in two minds as the name of my brother’s long term ex, and he struggled with the breakup. It took him a bit of time to come round but he’s fine with it now (I think!). But if it’s a no-go for you then fair enough.

What about Milly?

Babbabump · 22/01/2020 21:44

Amelie - I believe it's the French version? Sorry the spelling may not be correct! Emily is a beautiful name.

daisypond · 22/01/2020 21:48

I struggle to think of Emily as a pretty name. It seems very dull and plain to me. Names that are maybe similar-
Melanie.
Charlotte.
Alice.
Amy.
Bethany.
Cecily.
Harriet.
Juliet.
Pamela.
