I challenge you to suggest a name I've not already thought of...

I'm looking for a one-syllable name as the baby's second name will be long (double barrelled).

Boy's name.

Uncommon / not going to be too many of them either at school or in the media etc.

Names I've ruled out:

Things like:
John, Ben, Dan, Ed, etc (too boring, common amongst older people, 'around')

Things like:
Alfie, Albie, Ted, Wilf, Archie, (too popular)

Things like:
Bear, Fox, Snow, Thor (I kind of like them but they are a bit too much, iyswim)

Looking for a middle ground name. Uncommon, short, strong (not ending in "ie" sound) but not too wacky.

For example my favourite girl's name is Fern. (I quite like nature names).

The only boy's name I like is two syllables (Rohan- though could be shortened to Ro) but DH doesn't like it.

Any ideas for a name which fits the bill?

Lars. I am so fussy about boys' names but I love Lars. Not at all keen on Myles/Miles. It "feels" snowy to me too because it's from somewhere Scandanavian.

Leo, Jude, Blair, Louis?

I know it’s on your ‘too much’ list, but I do like Bear.
Jude is nice too.

OP, do you not like any of the names that have been suggested?!

If so you're a lost cause!

Dax

( I’m very minimalist )

I also like Locke but my DH hated it.

BertieBotts · 15/01/2020 21:07

The only name DH and I could agree on in the end was Leo, if that's of any use to you.

MissSmith1 · 15/01/2020 21:07

Yeh I agree with @PlantPotting - if you are saying names like “Wilf” are too popular @Namesetcdefinitely then definitely don’t pick a name that is almost identical to last years’ fastest rising boys name Roman. And also similar to so many other names that are also really popular. Rowan and Roman both top 100 rising fast and Roman will be top 20 soon given how much it climbs year on year. I teach so many variations of Ronan Roan Rohan, it’s really confusing and to be frank very dull. 🤯

Hold on... what about Frank?

Or Peter? Or Kit? Logan? Jim? Roy?

30, yes there are some names that have been mentioned which I do like but DH doesn't. We've trawled through the online lists hence coming on here to ask people directly!

Ok, this is two syllables- but what do people think of Soren?

I know a Soren. It's a lovely name. And he's cute!

So is it the usual story, you're putting forward loads of names and he's rejecting them all?

Is he making suggestions?

Also both of you should consider that some names might not jump out at you to begin with but might grow on you.
