I challenge you to suggest a name I've not already thought of...

I'm looking for a one-syllable name as the baby's second name will be long (double barrelled).

Boy's name.

Uncommon / not going to be too many of them either at school or in the media etc.

Names I've ruled out:

Things like:
John, Ben, Dan, Ed, etc (too boring, common amongst older people, 'around')

Things like:
Alfie, Albie, Ted, Wilf, Archie, (too popular)

Things like:
Bear, Fox, Snow, Thor (I kind of like them but they are a bit too much, iyswim)

Looking for a middle ground name. Uncommon, short, strong (not ending in "ie" sound) but not too wacky.

For example my favourite girl's name is Fern. (I quite like nature names).

The only boy's name I like is two syllables (Rohan- though could be shortened to Ro) but DH doesn't like it.

Any ideas for a name which fits the bill?

@AnneKipanki I agree - I’m giving up now and leaving this thread. Even OP seems to have lost interest 😆

I know a Leaf, not something I'd choose but nature-y nonetheless.

Haven't read the whole thread but what about Hugo? Or Hugh?

missjaysays · 21/01/2020 17:36

Not one syllable but what about Sawyer?

It's not really to my taste but maybe you would like it?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/01/2020 17:42

Damn, I was going to say Rex!

From the ones suggested so far, I love Ralph, Jude, Sam and James. Never met anybody with these names I didn't like Smile

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/01/2020 17:47

My DH was very good at Vetoing names. Like others have said, make him write a list!

Have we had Earl?

florascotia2 · 21/01/2020 18:05

Have we had Bryce and Bruce?

Also, op, look as far back as we can for names like these (all genuine, some royal):
Aed, Dubh (pron Duff or Dugh), Drost, Bede, Chad, Brude...
There's also Giric and Unust (ancient Scottish kings).
There's the Welsh ame Hwyl... and Biblical Mark, Luke, John, Saul and Paul

In the Netherlands, there are many, many one-syllable names ranging from the modern (eg Rick) to the traditional (eg Gijs, Ries). ditto in Germany...

NameChange30 · 21/01/2020 19:14

Earl reminds me of Duke
