Give me any/all your boys names.

We were TTC for a year and during that time I could not get DH to commit to a single boys name. After about 6 months we've settled on a girls name.

I'm due on July and will be finding out what we're expecting in Feb.

The only restrictions DH mentions is anything remotely Biblical.

I like anything uncommon/usual.

Names that are on my list that DH doesn't like...
Hunter
Gunnar
Odin
Albie
Abel
Roman
Harrison
Greyson

Well Abel is surely Biblical. It was one of Adam and Eve's sons.
Could Roman be classed as kind of Biblical. Rome is one of the Holiest cities in the world.
Colby.
Kenzo
Keegan
Cooper.
Dexter
Otis
Troy.
Carter
Jenson
Finley
Fintan
Maddox

GingerRH · 03/01/2020 13:38

@Awwlookatmybabyspider that's probably why he doesn't like any of the names in my list 😂🤣

They don't have any biblical connotations to me. They're just names I like. Maybe he's more religious than he lets of if he knows they're all biblical lol

Hunter - not sure
Gunnar - Scandinavian. Is it pronounced Gunner or Yunnahr?
Odin - Scandinavian, a bit much?
Albie - don't like it, seems downmarket
Abel - biblical
Roman - no, seems downmarket
Harrison - wouldn't choose it but it's not awful. Harry is much better
Greyson - grey is a bit drab, and on it's way out. Grayson a better spelling but it is still dreadful.

Non-biblical names leaves classics that are not biblical - Edward, William, Richard, Robert and so on. Plenty to choose from.

You might like names connected to myth or fable - you could look at names from Greek and Roman mythology.

You could look at grandad names like Alan, Tony, Graham, Colin, Martin, Raymond, which may be due a comeback.

You could try literature - Shakespeare, Dickens etc for inspiration.

Cbeebiesrehab · 03/01/2020 13:41

Be careful when picking something you consider unusual! Roman is the fastest growing name and is shooting up the charts! Harrison, Grayson and Albie are also probably far more popular than you would like. I know a baby Odin but I really like that.

GingerRH · 03/01/2020 13:46

@Cbeebiesrehab I don't mind if it's popular. When I say unusual I mean no classic/traditional names like Sophie, Louise, Edward, Harry etc.

GingerRH · 03/01/2020 13:47

@MikeUniformMike don't like any classic/traditional names. Growing up with an usual name, to me they're just plain.

When I say don't like I mean I wouldn't choose them for my own child. I don't dislike them as a whole.

Archer
Fraser
Heath
Dexter
Curtis
Cooper

MikeUniformMike · 03/01/2020 14:53

I'm not sure how you can guarantee an unusual name, because you only need one other one to ensure that your little Hunter ends up being Hunter RH, and there are enough 'They stole my baby's name' threads on here.

Secondly, some of your list of names aren't unusual. Gunnar and Odin are unusual but Albie, Roman, Harrison and Grayson are not at all unusual.

I understand that you might not like classic names and that's ok.
I quite like Hunter on your list. Not too out there and not too overused.

I quite like Winston.

Whatsyourflava · 03/01/2020 14:56

@GingerRH I do see what you mean about how you want a name that sounds a bit different because you grew up with a usual sounding name. You also need to put yourself in the shoes of the next generation though. “Roman” is the fastest rising boys name and will be top 10 in the next 2 years on its current growth current trajectory. So whilst names like “Roman” might sound unusual to our ears; to the next generation, they’ll just sound like “Dan” or “Dave” did when we were growing up (aka very run of the mill)

GingerRH · 03/01/2020 15:24

@whatsyourflava All the names I listed are a no go as DH doesn't like any of them. So no worries on the Roman front ☺️

OP posts:
Whatsyourflava · 03/01/2020 15:44

Ah I see. Names are so hard. It’s so tricky to reach agreement x

GingerRH · 03/01/2020 15:54

@Whatsyourflava it took months to agree on Freya. Not idea what will happen if it's a girl and she 'doesn't look like' a Freya

Whatsyourflava · 03/01/2020 15:55

Hello, me and my husband are expecting our 7th child between us. We already have 1 boy and 5 girls but we're 7 months pregnant with our first son together and really struggling on a name! We have vet uncommon unusual names for our others and would like something else crazy and different for the newest addition, we currently have
Kobi aged 10
Dexie aged 8
Dollie aged 7
Bindi aged 5
Lettie aged 4
Kymani aged 1
Ideally would love for the name to end in the 'i' like all the others but doesn't matter too much if we find an amazing name, when we say the crazier the better we mean it haha, most of previous kids names are jamaican, America, Australian any help would be much appreciated x
