I saw this name on a TV credits and sort of like it. Around here Annabelle is very popular so a bit different ?

Hmm.

It reminds me a bit of Babybel

Graymare · 01/01/2020 00:49

How about Meriel?

NoSauce · 01/01/2020 00:53

Prefer Mirabelle.

Krazynights34 · 01/01/2020 00:55

Love it!

JustASmallTownCurl · 01/01/2020 00:59

Love ittttt

Yerawizard · 01/01/2020 01:00

I like it!

tommycockles · 01/01/2020 01:02

It's the name of a Really good potato from the Asda extra special range. Delicious as jacket potatoes to wedges.

Astronica · 01/01/2020 01:29

It doesn't appeal to me at all. I do like Christabel as an alternative to the more popular bel names. If you like the Mari bit I prefer Marianne, Marian/Marion. Though not a great fan of Mabel either, I do prefer it over Maribel.

Iamthewombat · 01/01/2020 01:32

She will spend her life explaining that no, she was not named after a ski resort and the spelling is different blah blah. No.

newyearnewnameagain · 01/01/2020 10:01

I've never been skiing, I do like potatoes and cheese though 😁 Apparently name can mean star of the sea or bitter / sour hmmmm ?

Sounds very American South to me.

emilybrontescorsett · 01/01/2020 10:10

Sounds made up to me.

TheWashingMachine · 01/01/2020 10:19

Marielle is much nicer

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 01/01/2020 10:21

I think there's a Spanish actress called Maribel Verdu. I like it, but I didn't know it was a potato as well Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/01/2020 11:14

That's my instant thought - we know a young Marabel and I always think of (delicious) potatoes when I hear her name mentioned.

Granted, it's not as exotic as Spudulika....

Iliada · 01/01/2020 12:46

Maribel is a traditional Spanish name for women whose real name is María Isabel.

However, these days I think lot of Spanish people are just going for Maribel as the real name.

It’s a really nice name, IMO. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not a traditional European name.

Iliada · 01/01/2020 13:13

By the way, actual names of potatoes include:
Annabelle, Anya, Barbara, Cara, Colette, (king) Edward, Juliette, Laura, (Maris) Piper, Melody, Nadine, Nicola, Rosalind and Viola.

But Maribel is actually not the name of a potato, (the potato is Marabel) so I really don’t know what anyone else is going on about.

Teachermaths · 01/01/2020 13:15

Sounds like babybel.

Quite cute though.

ChipsyChopsy · 01/01/2020 13:21

I like it. It's feminine but not cutesy.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/01/2020 13:23

I'm just saying that's what it reminds me of - maybe just because they're my favourite variety! It's just that Piper, Melody, Edward etc all have plenty of other meanings and associations as well as being (or sounding like) kinds of potato.

I believe Toyota made a car called an Estima a few years back, but sadly, I don't think you could power it with potatoes.

MerryMarigold · 01/01/2020 13:26

I instantly thought Babybel. You've got an instant nickname when she's a baby which she will never grow out of!

flickeringcandle45 · 01/01/2020 13:28

Sounds like a French ski resort to me.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/01/2020 13:31

Mirabelle is nicer imo

june2007 · 01/01/2020 13:43

I too think of Meribel the French ski town. But then I have met children called Devon and Chesea and Leister, Chester and London have al been used as names so does that matter?

Novia · 01/01/2020 13:53

It's a Spanish name - very pretty, but how would you pronounce it? Here it is pronounced marry-bell.
