My SO and I have had a lot of fun with names however baby girl is due in 3 weeks and we are yet to agree on one. We are set on the middle name Belle, a family name. I would love to hear your opinions/what name you like best from our list. Thank you in advance

I really like Kerensa.

user1493494961 · 28/12/2019 12:52

Your list is pretty dreadful, Kerensa and Saffron are OK but Kerry as a shortening would be very dated.

missmouse101 · 28/12/2019 13:00

Kerensa and Saffron are nice. How about Lowenna, if you like Cornish names?

IVflytrap · 28/12/2019 13:26

Love: Kerensa and Saffron
Like: Evadne and Acacia
Meh: Soleil and Pandora
No: Cedar, Wisteria, Izumi (Japanese restaurant chain?)

IVflytrap · 28/12/2019 13:45

Just seen you're in Australia, so the restaurant chain may well be irrelevant to you.

As you're in a different country to most Mumsnetters, it's worth bearing in mind that most people responding here will have different cultural references to you (like Wisteria, Cedar and, unfortunately Acacia, being associated with suburban road names in the UK).

Other suggestions in case you'd like them:

Fern
Rowan
Azalea
Saskia
Ianthe
Xanthe
Elowen (Cornish, means Elm)

confusedyoungthing · 28/12/2019 13:48

Well I like your list! :)

Acacia is one of my recent crushes. She's exotic and funky! Acacia Belle is lovely.

I like Cedar, but I prefer it on a boy. Evadne is pretty, a nice change from Eva/Evelyn/Everly etc. Pandora is quirky and I adore Saffron! The others I'm not such a fan of, but they're not bad names!

OhHolyNightWaking · 28/12/2019 14:01

I don't particularly like any of the names on your list, sorry. It's just personal preference though, isn't it? It doesn't mean they are bad names. You probably wouldn't really like my children's names either.

I think given your background Izumi is a great pick (and probably the nicest name on the list, in my humble opinion).

Trying to think of anything other names that sound nice with Belle (which is lovely BTW!)...

Lily Belle
Hannah Belle
Clara Belle
Hazel Belle
Ivy Belle

midsomermurderess · 28/12/2019 14:04

Probably Izumi. It appears, on searching google, to be a Japanese name, more commonly given to girls, meaning spring or fountain. People would get to grips with it quite easily. Of the rest, at a push, Kerensa or Saffron.

girlygirl98 · 28/12/2019 15:20

Eek! I know wisteria is a plant and it's an ok name for a plant but not for a little girl. Evadne is your best one there. Pandora she'll get teased with as it's a brand name. Saffron is ok but if you watch absolutely fabulous it might put you off a bit. Kerensa will get shortened to Kerry by people and that's horribly dated. You also need to be careful with Belle if you're going to use it a lot or make it known as kids at school will call her bell end

username1724 · 28/12/2019 17:22

Acacia, Kerensa and Saffron I really like!

lioness88 · 28/12/2019 17:28

Sakura?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/12/2019 17:30

Kerensa, Pandora and Saffron are lovely.

georgialondon · 28/12/2019 17:36

I like Evadne

1Bobbinwinder · 28/12/2019 17:37

I love Kerensa. Unusual, nice to say, very pretty. Can think of sweet nicknames. Works for baby and adult.

Iliada · 28/12/2019 17:42

The idea that Willow can be a name but Wisteria cannot is ridiculous. I think Wisteria is a beautiful name and a fabulous flower. I love the scent of it when it blooms here in May and signals the start of spring.

Izumi and Acacia are also gorgeous, but I am especially drawn to Cedar, which makes me think of the scent of a cabin in the forest and a deep sense of peace and home. Also the sound of the name is really pretty.

littlealexhorne · 28/12/2019 17:49

Saffron's one on my list, I like it a lot. Not keen on the others though sorry.

CatteStreet · 28/12/2019 17:59

I think you may be having a 'lot of fun' with us, OP :) but, in case you're serious. Kerenza and Izumi (given appropriate background) are the only ones I'd go for.

Belle as a middle name is always going to sound a bit country and western.

Howtotrainyourhamster · 28/12/2019 19:03

I don’t think your names are anywhere near as bad as some are suggesting!

I actually quite like Acacia, read a book with a child of this name, shortened to Cashie/ Cassie.
Izumi - ok if you have Japanese heritage, which you do.
Kerensa - ok, better if you have Cornish heritage. Don’t like Kerry though.
Saffron - ok, thought I’ve personally been put off by Saffron Barker! Like Saffy.
Wisteria - I don’t think this sounds like a name, it’s not a very pretty sound.
Soleil - don’t really know how to pronounce. Not keen.
Pandora - don’t like personally but nothing hugely wrong with it. The box story would put me off a bit.
Evadne - I really like this actually, but am Scottish and can’t get away from fact it sounds like ‘if I hadnae’ said quickly! May not be issue I. Australia.

In summary I would go for Acacia, Evadne or Kerensa from those.

Also like Azalea and suggestion of Lowenna or Elowen.

bettybattenburg · 28/12/2019 19:06

Izumi given that you have some Japanese heritage.
