Just wondering what unusual ‘only met one’ names people had come across in their lives?

Luminous- lovely name and really suited the woman's personality.
(Yes, I'm aware that it's a normal name in some other cultures but it's an unusual name here, in the uk. As long as people don't take the piss out of the names then what's the problem really?)

FiveFarthings · 24/12/2019 10:18

I met a Twinkle once. There’s also a British actress called Tuppence Middleton which I’ve not heard anyone called before.

PaddingtonBrown · 24/12/2019 10:21

Don't really think anyone is being racist Hmm the thread says most unusual name you've only heard once, not the worst/most horrible name.

Mine are Jago, Barron and Harley-Quinn,

Marijuana Pepsi. She is an American education professional with a phD. She did her dissertation on unusual black names in the classroom.

"Thing about the L-a myth is that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that people have heard the myth, believed it, thought it was a good name and actually used it... self perpetuating"

That's spot on what happened. There are girls called La-a, but they a all younger than the Internet myth. No-one has ever found an older one who could really have begun it (and heaven in Snopes tried hard enough). So it is now a real name, inspected by Internet myth.

There was a family I heard of who's surname was Counsell and I think two of their kids were called Style and Somerset. An elderly neighbour was called Comayne, I love that and had I had a girl I would have called her that!! Never come across another one...

MrsJoshNavidi · 24/12/2019 10:37

Oh yes, I know a Jesus too, Filipino, he works in QEUH in Glasgow, great guy.

Jesus was quite a common name in Wales in times gone by. There was a Jesus Thomas and a Jesus Evans in the village where I grew up - both old boys back in the 70s, so must be dead now.
No different from Noah really, which is very common now.

Sadbadglad · 24/12/2019 10:38

Champayne

PatsyStone39 · 24/12/2019 10:39

A little boy called Croix - pronounced Croy and not like the frech Kwaa.

And I worked with a girl called Bling Bling.

Lunde · 24/12/2019 10:40

I was watching a gymnastics competition from the US where one of the competitors was called eMjae it was a bit disappointing that it was pronounced MJ.

I went to language classes with an Innocent - I don't know if he found it problematic being a 6' 3 man!

Bbq1 · 24/12/2019 10:41

Byron
Job
Armani

ThighThighOfthigh · 24/12/2019 10:45

Realtimes · 24/12/2019 10:50

I’ve read this thread a light relief as I’m getting a bit obsessed trying to find a name. Jenna Taylor and Shaun Lamb are a good laugh.
But most of these comments are really actually racist if people had understanding of other cultures.
Hope there’s a thread on Jamaican Mumsnet laughing at all the Evie’s, Albie’s and Archie’s and samey sounding names found in the white middle class over here.

yellowallpaper · 24/12/2019 10:50

Oakley-Fox. Seriously?

ThighThighOfthigh · 24/12/2019 10:50

And a Misty.

ThighThighOfthigh · 24/12/2019 10:53

95% percent of the peoples names I've mentioned are white British or white American.

Met a Gaeleene (white Oz)
