Just wondering what unusual ‘only met one’ names people had come across in their lives?

Blanket has now requested to be known as Bigi- not a huge improvement

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 28/12/2019 18:35

Do you think that is Biggy or Bee Gee?

littlealexhorne · 28/12/2019 18:43

Rainbow
Chermelda

Alltheprettyseahorses · 28/12/2019 18:53

I saw someone on the telly once called Paula Sunshine which I thought was really lovely. I have to say I really like a few names mentioned on this thread like Hero, Comfort, Precious and Blessing. Although tbh my own DD has the best name ever Grin.

Notmymug · 28/12/2019 19:00

I know of a woman named Sarah who has a sister named Cinnamon, she said she has no idea why her parents went rogue with her sisters name!

MillicentMartha · 28/12/2019 19:13

@cupprupe my cousin is called Eifion. North Welsh, he must be around 50yo. He’s the only one I’d ever heard of.

WeshMaGueule · 28/12/2019 19:55

Emilienne is a normal French name, not a typo for Emmeline.

There's a Bruthnie-Nolan and a Sydney-Diorr in my son's class.

scrivette · 28/12/2019 20:33

I read the entire thread to see if DD's name was on there as she wasn't listed on ONS the year she was born.

Unusual names I have only heard of once or twice are, Jessemay, Clarence (love this), Henley, Thankgod, Zeyke.

MrsMillerbecameababy · 28/12/2019 20:43

scrivette one of my children's names wasn't listed on ONS the year he was born but it's a completely normal name, just not in fashion then - interestingly the French spelling of the same name has made a comeback in recent years and there are now a few of them 8 or 9 years younger than ours.

scrivette · 28/12/2019 20:57

Mrs, that's true, although DD's name is extremely unusual and many would say it's a word not a name!

Spidey66 · 28/12/2019 21:03

A lot of Africans have names like Admire, Blessing, Sweet, Divine, Freedom. I've worked with many over the years and have got used to them.

There was a thread on Netmums once, someone wanted to call their son J-cub (Jacob)

I've a cousin called Concepta mentioned earlier.

Spidey66 · 28/12/2019 21:04

Jessmay sounds like an Asian name.

Penguin34 · 28/12/2019 21:22

My nans old next door neighbour was called Arthur brain

PineappleDanish · 28/12/2019 21:37

Conanrio (boy) at a baby group

Girl in my Brownies called Aeronwy, probably like Jane or Susan in Wales but I've never come across another

Megan-Mitzi - another girl applying to join Brownies, asked the mum to clarify whether it was hyphenated or whether Mitzi was the middle name, mum said that no it was most definitely hyphenated and the Mitzi was after the dog who had died two days before Megan-Mitzi was born... She'd be about 13 now, wonder if she's quietly dropped the Mitzi and is just Megan.

DS had a girl in his class called Swastika - Indian heritage but both parents born and raised in Scotland. Yes it's a Hindu religious symbol but it also has some other connotations in Europe.

JLo1979 · 28/12/2019 21:46

A lovely male shop assistant in bath and body works called Precious!

bxua · 28/12/2019 21:55

@scrivette I'm intrigued now?? Do you mind sharing?

scrivette · 28/12/2019 22:19

Spidey I spelt it incorrectly, it's Jessamy.

bxua if you search '2001 film with Kate Beckinsale' it's the name of the film (not Pearl Harbour!)

AJPTaylor · 29/12/2019 06:02

There has to be a minimum number of a name 3? 6?to appear on the released ONS data to prevent individuals being identified

Lou98453 · 29/12/2019 08:05

Not that unusual, but I went to school with a girl called Hermione. And, I work with two women called Hermione.

I also work with a Bartholomew, nn Bart.

MrsMillerbecameababy · 29/12/2019 08:22

I saw the forename Fredbert on an attendee sheet once and sure enough the guy introduced himself as Fredbert - that's two names/ nicknames merged isn't it? Alfred? Albert? Alfred Bertrum? Albert Frederick? Bert? Fred? Al? Nope - Fredbert.

GrannyBags · 29/12/2019 08:35

@scrivette that name is my favourite word. I know a boy whose mum wanted that but dad didn’t so he is just the first part.

Whatsyourflava · 29/12/2019 08:45

I like the name Blanket (although it was never his official name, only ever a nickname)

BikeRunSki · 29/12/2019 11:20

Drystan, he tells me that it’s the medieval form of Tristan

ims0rrydarlin · 30/12/2019 21:13

A little boy in my nephews nursery is called Garfield.

HermioneMakepeace · 30/12/2019 21:19

Love the FrillyFrocks story, really sweet Smile.
