Just wondering what unusual ‘only met one’ names people had come across in their lives?

OP posts:

Somerset it’s the name of a famous writer so not that unheard of.
Tudor and Gruff are pretty mainstream in Wales.

My mum has an old English name (and it’s my middle name) that I’ve never heard anyone else with. It’s in Pillars of the Earth though. Two people come up when you google it. My gran heard it when she was in service as a very young girl and before the internet though perhaps she’d made it up.

Not unusual in themselves, but with the surnames... well the parents should've known better

There is a lady who works in the Tesco Express near my work called Sainabou. She says it’s a pretty unusual name even in her home country (Ghana).

ButterflyBitch · 24/12/2019 16:04

I know a child who has bleu in their name. Pronounced blue. Why not just spell it blue?
I also met a baby Ace a long time ago.
I know of a Kalel named after superman

I read a death notice in a newspaper a few years back for an elderly lady who was called Nirvana. I remember thinking that if anyone these days called a child Nirvana people would automatically assume them to be Kurt Cobain fans.

What's odd about William Smith?

CalleighDoodle · 24/12/2019 17:13

What’s odd about William Smith?

I guess it is the story all about how his life got flipped, turned upside down...

DSIS went to school with Flash Gordon.

DS went to school with a rather small and delicate boy called Gruff Justice. Sounds like some kind of superhero and must have been difficult for the poor wee lad to live up to! Grin

Friend of a friend is Seraphine, nn Finny, I thought that was nice.
The lady who does my nails is called Lavender, she also has a very gothic surname and changed her name as an adult (I asked).

Christmastree43 · 24/12/2019 17:35

Changed it to Lavender, to be clear! Not sure what her original name was.
Oh and my MIL has Sidney (now 10) and Nancy (6). She'd never thought of the Sex Pistols connection til I said it!

I know girls called Halo and Starr.

The actress Holliday Grainger has an unusual name as does Honeysuckle Weeks.

I'll have to Google and see if they are their actual names now.
