DD name - help please

Help!
I thought we had nearly picked our DDs name (first child - scary thought how important naming is.. ) but now not sure...
We were thinking Georgia - but over the last couple months I have come across quite a few (most around 20yrs old) and realised how popular the name used to be (I'm an old first timer at 35 so never really paid attention to baby names in those years.... I dont really like names that are too popular (anything in the top 50 was out straight away) and while I am sure there are many lovely Georgias out there a couple of the ones I have now run into werent exactly great, so I am now very confused....
The only alternatives OH and I can agree on that I genuinely like are Eleanor (Nellie for nn) and Phillippa (Pip). Baby will have Baker as last name so very common which is another reason I dont want anything too popular - and DH doesnt like anything too far out here... argh.
Would appreciate some of your thoughts Georgia vs Philippa vs Eleanor?

I have a 3 yr old Eleanor so am biased so I’d say that, but love all three, and considered Georgia and Philippa too. Lots of Eleanor’s in their 20s too as was a popular 90s name! Come across a few toddler Eleanor’s too recently so it’s possibly on the rise. Good luck!

Georgia
Eleanor
I don't like Phillipa- hate Pip.

chloxox08 · 21/12/2019 16:45

I hate the name Pip too I think it's awful. Eleanor or Georgia are pretty Smile

MrsNoMopp · 21/12/2019 16:57

I like Eleanor best, then Georgia.

cptartapp · 21/12/2019 17:05

Eleanor is nice in it's enterity. No contrived nn. Nellie is awful, sorry.
Georgia is dated. Don't like Philippa.
How about Georgina, Erica, Louisa, Jennifer, Zara?

MerryGrinch · 21/12/2019 17:12

Eleanor was 51st most popular in England and Wales last year. Georgia was 71st. Philippa is nicer

Peaseblossom22 · 21/12/2019 17:13

Eleanor is a gorgeous classic , was our choice for a girl . I think Georgia is a bit 90s but like Georgina or Georgiana nn gigi .
I am a Philippa , I love it now as it’s classic , has several acceptable shortenings and is uncommon but not usual but it does seem to be a bit marmite .

We also liked Meredith, Beatrice and Juliet

Peacefrog23 · 21/12/2019 17:22

I think georgia and eleanor are both nice. I know georgias in their twenties but also a 4 and 10 year old.
I know a 37 year old Eleanor. Sorry dont like nelly, makes me think nelly the elephant or smelly nelly.
Would you mind the shortening of Elle or ellie?
I also like pip or how about Pippa?
X

Marcipex · 21/12/2019 17:23

Eleanor and Elinor are both lovely names. Sorry but I think Nellie is awful. Ellie and Linnie are nicer.
Georgia is okay, very popular a while ago.
I quite like Philippa, but not Pip, and I saw on here that Pippa has an unfortunate meaning in French.

NaToth · 21/12/2019 17:27

Philippa is due a revival. Perhaps Pippa for short?

mondler · 21/12/2019 19:43

I love Eleanor but couldn't use due to surname. Phillipa is lovely too and was on our list. The other name we loved was Heather in case it helps!

Georgia is a lovely name but after sitting opposite one at work for 3 years who would get in a proper strop whenever she got called Georgina I'd avoid it lol.

MikeUniformMike · 21/12/2019 19:48

I'd go for Philippa. Phil, Flip. Pip, Pippa are all ok as nn, but Philippa in full is nice.

daisypond · 21/12/2019 20:34

Philippa - spelled that way. I do really like Eleanor as well. Either. Not keen on Nellie, though Nell is nice. Not Georgia. It’s dated now and not classy any more.

roiseandjim · 21/12/2019 20:35

Georgia is the best by far

AlexN84 · 21/12/2019 21:35

Thanks everyone for your thoughts so far! Doesnt seem to be a clear favourite - no wonder we are struggling :-)
As for nick names... OH tells me no matter what we pick really - someone else will likley pick one of the other possibles to call her at nurery/school whatever so cant be sure what she would end up with...

Hate the name Philippa - just sounds like a boys name with a lazy “A” shoved on the end

My favourite of your suggestions is Eleanor - beautiful classic and lovely nickname potential

OceanSunFish · 21/12/2019 21:39

Philippa is my favourite.

DramaAlpaca · 21/12/2019 21:44

Eleanor and Philippa are beautiful, classic, elegant names. You won't go far wrong with either, although I wouldn't use Pippa as a diminutive as apparently it means very rude things in other languages.

Georgia is dated & I'm sorry but I don't think of it as a classy name. Unlike Georgina, which is in a similar vein to Eleanor & Philippa.

MrsBertBibby · 21/12/2019 23:18

Eleanor, and Nell is lovely (Nelly not so much)

Don't much like Georgia or Philippa.

bridgetreilly · 21/12/2019 23:21

In order:
Philippa
Eleanor
Georgia.

wizzler · 21/12/2019 23:22

I like Georgia but not so much with Baker, though that might just be my Yorkshire accent. Prefer Eleanor. How about Madeleine?

AdelaideK · 21/12/2019 23:22

Georgia is the nicest name. I like Eleanor too but not Nellie.

Really dislike Pip.

Tinty · 21/12/2019 23:25

Astrid pick Astrid, I know it’s an out there name but there won’t be many of them and it’s a beautiful name. Halo

Rumbelow · 22/12/2019 01:12

Love Philippa and Pip!

How about

Jemima
Tabitha
Eliza
Claudia
Felicity
Penelope
Madeleine
Fenella
Eloise
Louisa
Elspeth
Harriet
Beatrice
Cecily

Astronica · 22/12/2019 02:23

All 3 are quite lovely names and I feel your dilemma! All have been on my shortlists and I would happily have used any of those 3. Both Eleanor and Georgia are in current top 100 for UK, which might be a consideration for you. Georgia has been popular for some years as you've noted, and Eleanor seems to be on the rise right now. If popularity matters I'd steer towards the lovely Philippa/Pip but really I do love all of them.
