Kessie?

Kessie is a name I’m loving right now. It’s actually from a character from the Winnie the Pooh series. I was wondering what your thoughts were? Is it too diminutive? I just think it’s so cute and could be shortened to Kess for a nickname or to make less “cutesy” for later in life. Thanks!

You can’t call a kid Kes ffs.

It’s fine as a nickname. I wouldn’t use it as a full name. Are there any K or C names you like that you could give her with this being what you call her day to day? I don’t think it needs the full Kess sound though Cassandra and Cressida both have a hint of this.

I don’t dislike the sound of it but I would assume it was a nickname/diminutive, as Jessie is to Jessica

Or you could do Jessie or Tessie if it’s the end of the sound you like?

It's horrible. I winced just reading it.

I would have thought Kezia (which I've heard pronounced Kezzy-ah) or maybe Keziah (Kez-eye-ah). I think Kessie is lovely, as a nickname.

I would think that you can't pronounce Cassie

Just remembered, there was a character from a book I read as a child called Kess. It was short for Kestrel. I actually quite like the idea of Kestrel as a name, however I think it'll always be associated with the Ken Loach film, as a pp mentioned.

The kestrel in the book is Kes.
There is no Kessie in the Winnie the Pooh series. There is a Kessie in the godawful horrendous Disney cartoon New Adventures series.

OP did specify the Winnie the Pooh "series" which I took to mean a TV series. If they had meant the actual books, they probably would have just said "from Winnie the Pooh", surely?

The (human girl) character I was thinking of was Kestrel from The Wind Singer. Wonderful book.

Kessie is lovely as a nickname but I don’t think it works as a stand alone name.

Even some names ending in a ‘ka’ sounds could lead to the nickname Kessie - Erika or Francesca for example.

It’s not really from Winnie the Pooh is it? It’s from a kids cartoon based on Winnie the Pooh. It would be like calling your kid Lily Bobtail and claiming it was a name from a Beatrix Potter book.

It sounds a bit naff and babyish to me. It also must be short for something (assuming it’s not just totally made up).
