Kessie?

edill799 · 08/12/2019 11:06
Kessie is a name I’m loving right now. It’s actually from a character from the Winnie the Pooh series. I was wondering what your thoughts were? Is it too diminutive? I just think it’s so cute and could be shortened to Kess for a nickname or to make less “cutesy” for later in life. Thanks!
OrangeSwoosh · 08/12/2019 11:11
Honestly? To me it would look like a typo of Jessie
Leopardprintboots · 08/12/2019 11:18
I would assume chav (sorry I hate that word as much as the next person but trying to be honest)
ShinyNewNameTime · 08/12/2019 11:20
You can’t call a kid Kes ffs.

AryaNoOne · 08/12/2019 11:27
It’s fine as a nickname. I wouldn’t use it as a full name. Are there any K or C names you like that you could give her with this being what you call her day to day? I don’t think it needs the full Kess sound though Cassandra and Cressida both have a hint of this.
BuffaloCauliflower · 08/12/2019 11:28
I don’t dislike the sound of it but I would assume it was a nickname/diminutive, as Jessie is to Jessica
AryaNoOne · 08/12/2019 11:29
Or you could do Jessie or Tessie if it’s the end of the sound you like?
daisypond · 08/12/2019 12:00
How about Keziah? Which is a real name.
BertrandRussell · 08/12/2019 12:03
“ Kessie is a name I’m loving right now. It’s actually from a character from the Winnie the Pooh series.”
No it isn’t!
formerbabe · 08/12/2019 12:04
It's horrible. I winced just reading it.
IVflytrap · 08/12/2019 12:21
I would have thought Kezia (which I've heard pronounced Kezzy-ah) or maybe Keziah (Kez-eye-ah). I think Kessie is lovely, as a nickname.
NonUrinatInVentum · 08/12/2019 12:22
I would think that you can't pronounce Cassie
edill799 · 08/12/2019 12:22
The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Season 1 episode 4, “Find Her, Keep Her”

No it isn’t!“
Yes it is!! She’s a bluebird whom Rabbit adopted.
TSSDNCOP · 08/12/2019 12:24
So not actual WTP then.
How about Eeyore?
PS: it’s silly.
IVflytrap · 08/12/2019 12:24
Just remembered, there was a character from a book I read as a child called Kess. It was short for Kestrel. I actually quite like the idea of Kestrel as a name, however I think it'll always be associated with the Ken Loach film, as a pp mentioned.
IWorkAtTheCheesecakeFactory · 08/12/2019 12:25
Horrible.
daisypond · 08/12/2019 12:32
The kestrel in the book is Kes.
There is no Kessie in the Winnie the Pooh series. There is a Kessie in the godawful horrendous Disney cartoon New Adventures series.
userabcname · 08/12/2019 12:40
I like it OP!
Astronica · 08/12/2019 12:44
I'd find something longer such as Kerensa which I like, and use Kessie as a nickname.
edill799 · 08/12/2019 12:44
I actually really like Kestrel as a babygirl name. It’s growing on me. Thank you!
IVflytrap · 08/12/2019 12:46
OP did specify the Winnie the Pooh "series" which I took to mean a TV series. If they had meant the actual books, they probably would have just said "from Winnie the Pooh", surely?
The (human girl) character I was thinking of was Kestrel from The Wind Singer. Wonderful book.
daisypond · 08/12/2019 12:48
Oh yes, quite right, IV- The Wind Singer.
MyNewBearTotoro · 08/12/2019 12:52
Kessie is lovely as a nickname but I don’t think it works as a stand alone name.
Names that Kessie could be a nickname for:
Keziah
Cassandra
Katherine
Cressida
Clarissa
Even some names ending in a ‘ka’ sounds could lead to the nickname Kessie - Erika or Francesca for example.
user1480880826 · 08/12/2019 12:56
It’s not really from Winnie the Pooh is it? It’s from a kids cartoon based on Winnie the Pooh. It would be like calling your kid Lily Bobtail and claiming it was a name from a Beatrix Potter book.
It sounds a bit naff and babyish to me. It also must be short for something (assuming it’s not just totally made up).

This has to be a wind up!
